We share our perspectives on how much is within our control based off the environment you grew up in, what you did as a kid, and how you behave as an adult. In this episode Jacob and I talk about meditation, optimal homeostasis and what it means to live and train in an optimal state. In this episode I discuss why I believe implementing all three planes of motion into your training program, regardless of goal, can bring you more gains, keep you pain-free and build confidence with new movement patterns. The sagittal plane should always be the back bone of movements to focus on when building strength...but, adding movements that compliment these lifts should involve different variations of accessory movements or secondary lifts that can get you burning more calories, asking more from the body and emphasizing coordination to keep your body durable, stable and agile.
In this episode I sit down with Jake Smith, Crossfit coach of 6 years and full time trainer for the past 3 years. We talk about Crossfit, how he got involved, what the games/competitions are like and how approached the prep leading up to competition day. We also discuss the differences in coaching groups compared to 1:1 training and the different complexities each practice has to offer from a coaching perspective. The conversation finishes up with Jake talking about his mental approach to 20 minute all out AMRAP Crossfit workouts and then squatting 95% of his 1RM for three reps. The benefits of intentional stress training through lifting weights has yielded massive beneficial results in both our lives in different ways.
