Today we discuss the Lawson’s convienence store in Japan. A well known brand in Japan that found its origins in America.
We also discuss Norman Doors, named after Don Norman author of The Design of Everyday Things. What is a Norman Door and why are they still a thing? How could User Centered design improve our door using experience.

We close the episode with a discussion on the flu season in Japan and the use of flu masks. The history of flu masks beginning from the Spanish flu to how popular they are today.
The differences between flu masks and respirators are important and their ability to protect us from the flu is surprisingly scary. If anything, at least you will look cool wearing them.

Article in support of masks (Health.com) – Unused for the episode because there did not seem to be a distinction between flu masks and respirators.
There are also quotes stating they are helpful but then another quote saying otherwise.
e.g. “Yes, a surgical mask can help prevent the flu,” Sherif Mossad, MD, an infectious disease specialist at the Cleveland Clinic, tells Health…”
“I think wearing a mask all the time in public places to prevent transmission of the flu is not recommended for the vast majority of the population,” says Dr. Mossad.
Dr. Besser concurs: “My personal opinion is masks for healthy individuals are more annoying than useful. If you are really using a mask for protection or prevention, you would have to wear it practically 24/7 to avoid any possible contact…”
