There is a difference between a person who genuinely desires to follow the Lord but stumbles and a person who rejects the Lord by sinning against Him with no repentance. David desires to obey the Lord. However, he stumbles mightily. 

The story of David's sin against Uriah the Hittite teaches us about man's brokenness, our capacity for sin, and our continual struggle to walk by faith. Yet, this story also teaches us about God's mercy toward those who truly repent.
