Solomon’s wisdom becomes known through the untangling of the testimonies of two untrustworthy witnesses. Unique among men, Solomon possess the ability to uncover truth in spheres where truth seems undiscoverable. He uses wisdom to negotiate with his allies. In seven years, Solomon completed the difficult task of building the temple exactly according to blueprint. In matters of justice, politics, and administration, no ruler on earth matched Solomon’s application of wisdom.

Asaph again pens a corporate worship song instructing Israel of future things. Solomon establishes the kingdom by administering justice. The king must do the work of tearing down the wicked in order for righteousness in his rule to have integrity. What the king desires most from the Lord reveals his understanding of his role. How the Lord responds to his desire reveals God's desire for Israel's flourishing--and Israel will flourish. However, Solomon's decision to ally with Egypt will prove a snare opposing God's promise for blessing.

Psalm 79 provides Israel with another means through which to be exposed in their sin before the hand of God's wrath falls. Because Israel fails to sing this song consistently, its words must remind an exiled Israel to repent.
