Summary:

Pinpointing, and letting go of, things or people who no longer serve you can be scary. It’s easy to stay in a “comfort zone.” But often, you have outgrown things in your life and you may not even be aware of it! What no longer serves you can prevent you from living the life you want to live. 

Before you let go of something, however, how do you determine what no longer serves you? Here are the ways to do that, which I discuss in the recording:

You just “know.”

You dread doing it.

It no longer brings you joy or meaning.

You’re distracted.

You dream of a future without it.

It makes you feel bad about yourself.

Dr. Allen Lycka is a speaker, trainer, bestselling author, and respected cosmetic dermatologist.

On a trip to Disneyland in 2003, Dr. Lycka’s wife noticed that his right foot had suddenly developed a foot drop, where it was no longer lifting. After several scans and tests, he was misdiagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), and was told that he would die within six months.

After going through all the stages of grief, he decided to seek a second opinion. His persistence paid off. After visiting several providers, Dr. Lycka finally received the correct diagnosis. He suffered from chronic Lyme disease, caused by a tick bite, and was easily cured.

His newfound lease on life led him to meet the co-author of his book, Harriet Tinka, at a charity conference. She shared her tragic story of kidnapping. Their stories inspired them to write the book, "The Secrets to Living a Fantastic Life". He talks about the 13 “golden pearls” which enrich our life. We discuss two of these golden pearls in our chat: love and enthusiasm.

Dr. Lycka also shares his tips on dealing with depression and burnout during the pandemic.
