For two decades, Bouchra Khalili’s work has articulated contemporary migratory trajectories, colonial continuum, and the politics of memory of internationalist struggles and collective emancipation. In An Audio Family Album, Bouchra Khalili continues her investigation of Al Assifa’s methodology based on the dying tradition of Al-halqa, the oldest performing art in North Africa. Collaborating with a younger generation of members of the same communities living nowadays in Europe, she proposes an online archive of voices, bringing together stories of emancipation that have helped shape the memories and contemporary strategies of diaspora struggles and that, through this process, are passed on from one generation to the next.

Episode 2: Histoire de Hamoudi avec Maja Ajmia Yde Zellama

EN - Maja is a filmmaker and an activist who was born in Brussels. The daughter of a Tunisian father and a Danish mother, Maja grew up among men of Arab and Muslim descent: her brothers, cousins and uncles. As an attentive observer, she shares her views on masculinities in diaspora – as constructed by society – and as imposed on the men in her family. Here, Maja’s story is interwoven with Faiza Guene’s descriptions of Hamoudi, a secondary character from her novel Kiffe Kiffe Demain.

FR - Maja est une cinéaste et une activiste née à Bruxelles. Fille d'un père tunisien et d'une mère danoise, Maja a grandi parmi des hommes d'origine arabe et musulmane : ses frères, ses cousins, ses oncles. Observatrice attentive, elle partage ses réflexions sur les masculinités en diaspora – telles qu'elles sont construites par la société - et telles qu'elles sont imposées aux hommes de sa famille. Ici, l'histoire de Maja est tissée avec les descriptions de Faiza Guene sur Hamoudi, un personnage secondaire de son roman Kiffe Kiffe Demain.

Ze is de dochter van een Tunesische vader en een Deense moeder en groeide op omgeven door Arabische en moslimmannen: haar broers, neven, nonkels. Ze deelt haar blik op verschillende vormen van mannelijkheid in de diaspora, door de samenleving vormgegeven en opgelegd aan de mannen van haar familie. Maja’s verhaal is hier verweven met de beschrijvingen die Faiza Guene maakt van Hamoudi, een personage uit haar boek Kiffe Kiffe Demain.
