While countries like Ireland and Brazil are advancing their healthcare with specialized day hospitals (e.g., geriatric care, cardiovascular surgery), Australia lacks a clear, unified understanding of what a day hospital is. They are currently referred to by various names across different states.

This lack of clarity is an issue. If patients, healthcare professionals, politicians, and the public better understood day hospitals, we could integrate them more effectively and utilize their capacity to alleviate pressure on the public hospital system.
