Crisis Lifeline: Call/Text 988
National Helpline 1-800-662-4357
Veterans Crisis Line (dial 988 then press 1)
National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE)
In this episode, I explore the question of whether mocktails and non-alcoholic alternatives are safe for people struggling with alcoholism. I talk about my own experiences with cutting back on drinking and why I started looking into non-alcoholic versions of drinks like Moscow Mules and Bloody Marys. I discuss the pros and cons of mocktails, non-alcoholic beer, and alcohol-free wine, and why some of these options might work for certain people but could also trigger cravings for others.
I also go over what addiction specialists and recovery resources generally say about these alternatives, especially the risks of recreating drinking rituals or triggering old habits. From what I found, there’s no universal answer—it really depends on the person, their stage of sobriety, and their triggers. Ultimately, I share my perspective on staying cautious, focusing on healthier habits, and remembering that recovery and personal growth are always possible.
