The one where the guys gave their two cents on the American Election, CMCO Round 2, Kuman Picture's Oscar submission of Roh, and we paid a tiny tribute to the late great, Sir Sean Connery, who recently passed. We also discussed about his controversial past that was brought up in light of his passing and we asked ourselves what it's all really about and how we treat these public figures in 2020.

After a 2 week hiatus, we are back with yet another new episode of AWR and this time we're quietly celebrating the ghostly festivity this time of year as we share with you our favorite horror movies of all time. Some choices may surprise you, some may even provoke a nostalgia or two, but rest assured that these selections will most definitely put some Halloween spirit into you.

A low key one this week as the boys tackled two topics for this episode; China released their own version of Mulan to a less-than-enthusiastic reception and an 80's comic book God, Alan Moore, came out of his self-imposed media exile to give his latest take on the current climate of superhero movies. Also, this episode was recorded a few hours after the recent announcement of the CMCO by the ministry (to be effective Oct 14th 'till 27th). In the meantime, heed the rules and stay safe!

The guys gave their thoughts on the current COVID situation, briefly reminisced over old Yasmin Ahmad's contents and glossed over the cultural significance on why film criticism is so needed in this country. Derek also gave his thoughts on Netflix's latest original film from Malaysian writer/director, Adrian Teh's, comedy-caper, 'Pasal Kau!'. Warning, most of it will sound like a major rant. It's back to our usual segment as the boys recap TV's biggest night in the 72nd Emmy Awards! They talk about their favorite winners, predictable outcomes and how the first virtual awards show really fared. Also, Lulu Wang has made headlines when she called out Ron Howard for being involved in a biopic movie about a famous pianist from China named Lang Lang. Where do we draw the line between representation and freedom of creative expression?

Ay, Garrick's back for this week's episode where the topic at hand seemingly rests on the cyclical nature of life and death. We talk briefly about the passing of King T'Challa himself, Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up, 42, Black Panther, Da 5 Bloods) and we segued into Charlie Kaufman's idiosyncratic career thus far as we dived into his latest film, I'm Thinking of Ending Things (Netflix). Plus, there will be a spoiler chat on 37:00 mark onwards so stay off if you haven't seen the film yet.

Garrick's out for the week so it's up to Derek to fill in and before he makes a fool out of himself, familiar friends Andy and Victor hopped on and made sure everything is not awkward this week. They talked about Mulan, the new Dune trailer, R-Patz being Covid-positive and what both Andy and Victor really thinks about Tenet.

We went. We saw. We had thoughts. This is probably Nolan’s most challenging film to date and we can tell that it’s not going to please everyone. A filmmaker of his stature has all the players and environments to play with, but when does it feel like it’s going too far? Or are we just not able to comprehend it thoroughly? The one where it's all about Christopher Nolan. Yes, the guys at AWR took a quick look back at the acclaimed writer/director's career thus far, his penchant on telling unique stories within the Hollywood studio system and what exactly do people mean when they say the term "Nolan-esque" as we slowly segue into our hot takes on Tenet, his latest time-bending take on the spy thriller convention.

General consensus at the house of AWR: we love Charlie Kaufman and all of his glorious and idiosyncratic work of art. His new film, I'm Thinking of Ending Things, is going to be out on September 4th on Netflix so we thought we'd look back and discuss thoroughly at one of his masterpieces = 2004's Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

Jim Carrey. Kate Winslet. Post-LOTR Elijah Wood. Beardless and pre-Hulk Mark Ruffalo. Spiderman's Kirsten Dunst. This film has everyone. It's also regarded as one of the best films ever made globally and we had so much fun digging through Kaufman's brain in this.
