This week, we comment about the Commonwealth Games, our national colours and national pride, the wonderful and unique opening ceremony, and the friendliness of the competition.
We salute our icon Elton John – for his artistry over such a wonderful career, and for his support of the AIDS community and research for a cure, and his example and support for same-sex marriage & family. We look forward to the US “Grammy Salute to Elton – I’m Still standing” being rebroadcast on local TV, fresh from the US.
With Earth Day occurring annually on 22 April, we follow this year’s theme “End plastic pollution”, and give the example of a young Cairns citizen who has convinced local enterprises to cease using plastic drinking straws. Great as this is (and part of a worldwide movement to cease the use of plastic straws), the rest of the huge pollution problem remains for us to solve.
In other world news, we learn with interest that PreP medication is soon to be available in a weekly dosage, rather than the existing daily dose, and we learn with amazement that UK doesn’t have a non-binary box in their passports for trans people to indicate their gender status.
Listen to these stories, opinions and more, presented with some merriment by Chris, Gordon & Phil.
Show #799- First broadcast on 17 April 2018
