Once Upon a Time as Megan

* Founder of Second Chance Counseling Service

* The kids definitely came first
* It wasn’t until recently that they delved into the world of entrepreneurship

* Megan made significant life changes in order to spend more time with her kids before they leave the nest
* The thought of being an entrepreneur terrified Megan, but she developed the itch for it and ended up doing it
* Her husband works full time so she wasn’t forced into her business, but she still wanted to help people with addiction and resulting problems
* Megan is the kind of person who doesn’t quit, so she was nervous about starting her business because she knew she would be stuck with it
* A day in the life of Megan depends on a lot of things. She talks with customers and puts her kids in the shower and she cooks and plenty of other things
*

* You have to be able to flex your style, communication, and just your day

* Megan’s clients are anyone that has a substance abuse problem

*

* Messing up is human nature. People will relapse and there will be bad days, but you have to look at each day as a new day and you have to commit to doing x y and z each day
* Addiction can happen to anyone at anytime
* No one makes you do anything. We are in charge of what we do

* You can’t change someone else, they have to want to change themselves

* Even with kids, they are still their own person. Parents only have so much leverage
* As parents, we feel personally responsible for what happens with our kids

* It’s important to know about your kids’ friends. Their friends have a huge impact

*
* A lot of parents feel that they should be like a best friend, but a parent should be there as a parent and a supporter and a guide

* Even though you may not be their best friend, they can still come to you about things
* Don’t react to what your kids say, just listen and respond

* In Megan’s business, each client will be matched with a therapist that can help the best
* There is no shame in admitting you have a problem
* Megan and her family have been living in an RV for the past two years as they travel the country

* They stay in a place for a month so they can experience a culture
* Megan is teaching her children to have experiences over money. They can’t have a dozen pairs of shoes on an RV

* If you need help, there are people living out there that want to help for good, loving reasons
* As a people, we’ve gotten away from being caring and compassionate in favor of materialism and wealth
