Wilde About Woo

Are you the moth that flits too close to the flame? The problem with passion, how to curate curiosity, and live as a possibilitarian

Listen Later

I have had a list of careers as long as my ARM - I flit from job to job like a butterfly. I haven't found my PASSION, and yet everyone from virtually every podcast I listen to, every book I read, and even my own family, tells me that I need to find it. Like it would somehow complete me.

In this episode, I discuss why curiosity and being open to possibility may be far better routes to go down, than trying (and failing) to discover what our 'passion' is.

0-1: Introduction

1-3: My own journey through work: the career butterfly

3-6: The hatred I feel for self-help guides' advice about passion

6-12: Elizabeth Gilbert's take on how "society fetishises passion"

12-16: Defining passion, and why curiosity might be a better route

16-20: A personal anecdote about how being curious paid off for me on a family holiday

20-26: Natural curiosity, and the questions we ask about things

26-30: How possibility gives us more opportunities and open-mindedness

30-41: How having goals works so well with being a possibilitarian: the paths to them are endless!

41-45 : Quote of the episode

45-55: My top five methods for developing curiosity and becoming a possibilitarian

55-59: Conclusions

Quote of the Episode:

"Become a possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see possibilities - always see them, for they're always there."

Norman Vincent Peale
