Her father was a Baptist preacher, while her mother was a gospel singer. She had 3 siblings and they all grew up in a religious household. Her sisters Carolyn and Erma were also singers. Aretha Franklin, in full Aretha Louise Franklin, (born March 25, 1942, Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.—died August 16, 2018, Detroit, Michigan), American singer she also defined the golden age of soul music of the 1960s. Franklin's mother, Barbara, was a gospel singer and pianist.
