We've made a lot of fun of "Florida Man" in previous episodes, but the truth is that "Florida Man" doesn't hold a candle to "New York Man" when it comes to crime. While "Florida Man's" exploits are bizarre and often hilarious, New York Man tends toward senseless violence. Today we are playing "Crime and the Ten Commandments," looking at some recent crime stories to see how Commandments apply, and what might the criminals or victims have done differently.

Prayer of the Week

Almighty and merciful God, whose gift it is that Your faithful possess all things pertaining to faith and life, we implore You that we may so faithfully cling to Your promises in this life that we fail not finally to attain to Your heavenly glory; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Prayer of the Week

Almighty and everlasting God, who are always more ready to hear than we to pray and give more than we either desire or deserve, pour down upon us the abundance of Your mercy, forgiving those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things that we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Christ, our Lord; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Context, context, context. Millions of Christians use proof texts to promote or defend preferred ideological positions, political movements, or worldviews. And most of those who do the proof-texting do it with little or no context.
