ALTER EGO is the follow up stand-alone sequel to Alex Segura’s thrilling LA Times Book Prize-winning novel, Secret Identity, centered around the world of comic books and featuring another Cuban-American heroine. Acclaimed comic book artist Annie Bustamante believes she’s done with the comic book industry, but when an opportunity arises to tackle the Lethal Lynx, one of her longtime favorite superheroes, she’s not sure she can pass it up.
When Triumph Comics’ newest CEO Bert Carlyle, son of its founder Jeffrey Carlyle, proposes for her to tell the Lynx’s story Annie is hesitant to accept the offer. What makes matters worse is the ambiguity around who exactly owns the rights to the Lynx, Carlyle’s desire to pair her with a disgraced filmmaker for a tie-in media play, and the anonymous messages she’s been receiving telling her not to trust anyone. Chasing after the spark she felt when she first picked up her issue of The Legendary Lynx #1, Annie is determined to tell the story her way even if she uncovers dark secrets about the beloved character.
In Annie's story, Segura celebrates the childlike wonder and transportive storytelling power of comic books and pays homage to the overlooked and underrepresented storytellers.

Lauren-Michael is a special education teacher and worship director. She believes her students have exceptionalities, not disabilities, and leading worship has gifted her with both a church family and renewed faith. With both Master's and Educational Specialist degrees, she uses her education to give her students a voice. As the oldest of five, she grew up quickly to fill the mom role to her siblings. In ninth grade, her mother lost custody of her and her siblings, leading them all to be separated. She then started writing as an outlet for her traumatic upbringing. One day, a teacher saw her journaling and pointed out that it looked like songs. Music became her total focus, ultimately leading her to receive a full scholarship to study voice and music composition. Now living and teaching in Nashville, she performs locally and participates in songwriting collaborations every chance she gets.

In his memoir, The Problem with Men: Insights on Overcoming a Traumatic Childhood from a World-Renowned Psychologist (Koehler Books; September 2024; Hardcover; ISBN: 979-8-88824-432-6), Dr. Ronald F. Levant, a prominent psychologist and former president of the American Psychological Association, reflects on his challenging childhood, which was marked by his father's abuse and the fear it instilled in him, nearly leading him toward delinquency. A pivotal moment in his life occurred when he discovered his talent for mathematics at Los Angeles City College. He later transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, and earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Public Practice from Harvard University. Dr. Levant is recognized as one of the key professionals responsible for establishing a new field in psychology—the psychology of men and masculinity.
Discover how human beings react to danger-and what makes the difference between life and death.
Residents of Los Angeles have been living with a significant risk of earthquakes and today, living with the nightmare of the worst wildfires ever to hit California! Nine out of ten Americans live in places at significant risk of earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, terrorism, wildfires or other disasters. Tomorrow, some of us will have to make split-second choices to save ourselves and our families. How will we react? What will it feel like? Will we be heroes or victims?
In her quest to answer these questions, award-winning journalist Amanda Ripley traces human responses to some of recent history's epic disasters, from the explosion of the Mont Blanc munitions ship in 1917-one of the biggest explosions before the invention of the atomic bomb-to the journeys of the 15,000 people who found their way out of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. To understand the science behind the stories, Ripley turns to leading brain scientists, trauma psychologists, and other disaster experts. She even has her own brain examined by military researchers and experiences, through realistic simulations, what it might be like to survive a plane crash into the ocean or to escape a raging fire.
Ripley comes back with precious wisdom about the surprising humanity of crowds, the elegance of the brain's fear circuits, and the stunning inadequacy of many of our evolutionary responses. Most unexpectedly, she discovers the brain's ability to do much, much better-with just a little help.
Sons of Silver is set to release their debut full-length album, Runaway Emotions, on January 10. Infused with classic rock ‘n’ roll energy and post-punk intensity, the album combines apocalyptic themes with rallying cry lyrics. Pre-save it here: https://SonsOfSilver.lnk.to/RunawayEmotionsPS

Earlier this year, the band sat down with music historian Matt Pinfield to discuss “Running Out of Words” and the new album’s inspiration. Hear what they shared here: https://youtu.be/ZpETqb5ukbQ?feature=shared
“I think Sons of Silver’s music embodies the spirit and enduring elements of classic rock with a thoroughly modern twist and a flair for critical thinking, which is something the world certainly needs more of right now,” says Pinfield.
Sons of Silver features vocalist and guitarist Pete Argyropoulos (PeteRG), drummer Marc Slutsky (Splender, Peter Murphy), keyboardist and engineer Brina Kabler, guitarist Kevin Haaland (Skillet), and bassist Adam Kury (Candlebox).
“We are what we eat,” says Kury. “The record is a warning: if we continue down this path, we’re doomed,” adds Argyropoulos. “But if you look at it from a different angle, you’ll see that we share more in common than we realize, even if we focus on what separates us. At its best, rock ‘n’ roll brings us together and celebrates what we have in common.”
Runaway Emotions is Sons of Silver’s first full-length album, following two EPs—2020’s Doomsday Noises (which placed three songs on the Billboard Active Rock chart) and 2022’s Ordinary Sex Appeal. The album will be released through the band’s own label, 4L Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Music Group’s Bungalow Records. Collectively, Sons of Silver’s songs have amassed over sixteen million streams and views. Self-produced by the band, the record was mixed by renowned English producer and engineer Tim Palmer, who says, “These guys epitomize the essence of classic alternative rock. Their music is fueled by both power and raw emotion, with genuinely profound lyrics.”
On January 17, the band will kick off a 21-city national tour with Myles Kennedy and Tim Montana. Find the full list of dates and tickets at Tour — Sons of Silver.
