Renowned ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro and legendary drummer Mick Fleetwood have teamed up to release a new rendition of the classic "Whiter Shade Of Pale." The single, a reimagining of Procol Harum's iconic song, is the second taste of their highly anticipated collaborative album, set to drop on October 18th via 40 Below Records.
"Whiter Shade Of Pale" has long been regarded as a timeless classic, and now, in the hands of these two iconic musicians, it takes on a new life. The collaboration marries Jake Shimabukuro’s masterful ukulele playing with Mick Fleetwood’s dynamic drumming, creating a soundscape that is both haunting and uplifting.
Mick Fleetwood shares his excitement about the project: "This is a song I’ve always wanted to play… of course, the song recorded by Procol Harum was a world-renowned classic… with a melody so strong that it became a gift to us! And Jake totally commands the full need for dynamics and a passionate delivery. At last, I got to play and record this song!!!"
Jake Shimabukuro reflects on the collaboration: "This was a song that Mick suggested. Such an iconic piece of music. It truly plays like an anthem. And Mickʻs drumming makes the track feel amazing. I was just transported through his drum sounds."
The upcoming album, Blues Experience, promises to be a powerful fusion of their distinct musical styles, blending Jake’s innovative approach to the ukulele with Mick’s legendary rhythm. Fans can look forward to an album that pushes boundaries while honoring the timeless quality of the music they both cherish.
Joining Shimabukuro and Fleetwood on the album are bassist Jackson Waldhoff and keyboard player Michael Grande. Special guest Mark Johnstone from The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band also lends his keyboard prowess to "Need Your Love So Bad" and "Rockin' In The Free World." Over two intense three-day sessions, the band recorded nine tracks live in the studio, with Sonny Landreth contributing slide guitar to the Jeff Beck/Stevie Wonder classic "Cause We've Ended As Lovers."
Blues Experience promises to be a landmark release. It combines the formidable talents of Jake Shimabukuro and Mick Fleetwood with fresh, innovative interpretations of blues classics. Fans can expect a bold and forward-looking album that is deeply rooted in tradition.

A young woman is found dead in the country land of 1920’s Australia. Was it murder? Suicide? An accident? The police investigation into this mystery becomes a deeper dive into the lives of people a century ago, where the technology, human rights reforms, and economic safety nets of today did not exist. Sylvia Lerch’s historical fiction, Grasp The Nettle: Australian Country Life in the 1920s Era, is her debut novel at age 80, and it draws upon many aspects her family had experienced back then.
The moving work reveals to the reader the challenges of living life in a time and place that was not kind to many, especially women and the gender diverse. How did people cope with the harsh obstacles of trying to live a meaningful, happy, healthy, love-filled life a century ago?
Grasp The Nettle reveals what those living in Australia country in 1920s had to confront. The world was so different then, from its lack of modern technology to few defenses against diseases that today are well under control.
Women were not allowed to be financially independent, many were in loveless marriages, and a lack of reliable contraception kept them overwhelmed by more kids than they can handle.
Lerch, an octogenarian who never used an ATM, doesn’t own a cell phone, lives in a home without Internet service, and doesn’t know from social media, lives a nearly tech-free lifestyle similar to that of those who lived in the 1920’s.
“My book also shows the powerful role of the church in the 1920’s,” says Lerch. “The church was the loom for the fabric of society, including education, mental health therapy, charity for the needy, births, deaths, and marriages. It was a meeting place not just for religious ceremonies, but for the conducting of the business of one’s life.”
THE WONDERLAND MASSACRE & THE SECRET HISTORY OF HOLLYWOOD is based on the Audible podcast of the same name by writer Michael Connelly (Bosch, The Lincoln Lawyer). This series dives further into Connelly's investigation of the July 1, 1981 Wonderland massacre, one of Hollywood's most famous murder cases that has fascinated people for more than 40 years. This series builds upon the podcast's archival footage of the events and interviews with Scott Thorson, the only surviving* witness on the murder night and the once boyfriend of Liberace and adds additional testimonies and interviews from detectives and prosecutors involved with the case. It is the first and only time that Scott has told his full story on screen (*Note: Thorson has since unexpectedly passed a few weeks ago, making this story more timely than ever).
This gritty and fast paced series is directed and produced by Alison Ellwood (San Francisco Sounds, Laurel Canyon) and executive produced by Nick Gilhool and Jen Casey of One Traveler Productions.
As one of the pivotal eras of the Los Angeles sex, drugs and rock n' roll scene, the series' events have often been referenced throughout pop culture, most famously by Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights. The four-part series has its finale next Sunday, September 8th on MGM+.
