  • The Daily Mess If Dogs Could Talk

    May 2, 2023

I often wonder about dogs talking.

If they could, what would they say to their human counterparts?  I always think Jazzie is talking to me!  But am I right?  I’ve done some research.  If dogs could talk they’d remind us our time
together is limited.  They’d want to know
what we want from them.  Dogs would
remind us to not stay angry at them for long periods of time.  They don’t know human words but they
understand our voices.  I want Jazzie to
talk mainly because of a personal need to find out how close I am to knowing
her voice and personality.  If she could
talk would she command me to walk with her on a human leash?  With a voice comes demands.

Pod Crashing Episode 222 With Bob Crawford From The Avett

    Brothers.

Founding Son: John Quincy’s America.  One

of the most fascinating periods in American history is also one of the least
discussed today. Join Bob Crawford of the Avett Brothers as we go inside the
head of America's Founding Son, John Quincy Adams.

In the years between 1824 and 1848, southern slave owners ran roughshod over

the American political landscape. For most of that time there was only one man
who stood against them in their quest to make all of the United States a
perpetual slavocracy. Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld, Rules of Engagement, Family
Guy) is voicing John Quincy Adams while Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation,
Fargo, The Last of Us) is voicing Andrew Jackson. Bob Crawford is the host (Bob
plays the upright bass, bass guitar and violin for the Grammy-nominated
    Americana band The Avett Brothers).

  • Katrina Ella And Johan From Peacocks The Gentle Art Of Swedish Death Cleaning

    Inspired

by Margareta Magnusson’s bestselling book comes a transformational
series in which eight people at different
stages of their lives are given the chance to sort out their home,
life, and relationships before it’s too late. Plucked from Sweden, an
organizer, designer, and psychologist — also known as the "Death
Cleaners" — come to America to help subjects reinvent
themselves by facing their mortality, speaking honestly about death,
and confronting all that “crap” that has been collecting dust for years.
Each story builds toward a physical overhaul of the home, as well as an
emotional evolution, leaving us smiling with
a lighter view of death and a more celebratory vision for the future.
This is a journey of levity and hope as Amy Poehler hilariously guides
us through stories about dealing with our stuff... so that those we
leave behind aren’t faced with the overwhelming
    task of sorting through it.
Swedish Death Cleaning normalizes one of our worst fears, death, by reminding us of all the ways we are alive.

  • Neil King Jr Releases The Book American Ramble

    A

stunning, revelatory memoir about a 330-mile walk from Washington,
D.C., to New York City-an unforgettable pilgrimage to the heart of
America across some of our oldest
    common ground.

    Neil

King Jr.'s desire to walk from Washington, D.C., to New York City began
as a whim and soon became an obsession. By the spring of 2021, events
    had intervened that
gave his desire greater urgency. His neighborhood still reeled from the
January 6th insurrection. Covid lockdowns and a rancorous election had
deepened America's divides. Neil himself bore the imprints of a long
battle with cancer. Determined to rediscover
what matters in life and to see our national story with new eyes, Neil
turned north with a small satchel on his back and one mission in mind:
To pay close attention to the land he crossed and the people he met.

    What

followed is an extraordinary 26-day journey through historic
battlefields and cemeteries, over the Mason-Dixon line, past Quaker and
    Amish farms, along Valley Forge
stream beds, atop a New Jersey trash mound, across New York Harbor, and
finally, to his ultimate destination: the Ramble, where a tangle of
pathways converges in Central Park. The journey travels deep into
America's past and present, uncovering forgotten pockets
and overlooked people. At a time of mounting disunity, the trip reveals
the profound power of our shared ground.

By turns amusing, inspiring, and sublime, American Ramble offers an exquisite account of personal and national renewal-an indelible study of our country as we've

never seen it before. King says of his memoir, "I couldn't be prouder of American Ramble as
a book that revives a faded tradition In American travel writing that
weaves travelogue with memoir and history and, yes, even some
    philosophy. It is a quiet,
very personal book, but at the same time wide open and welcoming to any
reader. It says: 'Come on a long walk with me. Let's talk.'"

  • The Daily Mess What Is Sleeping In

    May 1, 2023

Is there such a thing as a day of rest?

What is on considered sleeping in?
Fifteen to thirty minutes makes me feel one hour late.  My mother constantly told me to slow
down.  The business world doesn’t play
that way.  An operations manager once
told me that taking my time was costing him money.  His words of removing the artist from my
ethics was an experience that felt like a giant boulder tearing down a
mountainside hitting a cabin.  The mind
becomes tired.  Eight hours of sleep will
    forever feel like ten minutes

Play It Forward Episode 571 With Jared Harris From The Ghost Of Richard Harris

The Ghost Of Richard Harris tells

the story of a once famous actor, poet, lover and singer, whose prodigious
career was overshadowed by a reputation for drinking and riotous behavior,
earning him the epithet 'hell raiser'. It is the story of a legendary Irishman,
perhaps the greatest actor Ireland has produced, who still lives in the hearts
of his countrymen. And it's the story of a father whose three sons still think
about him every day, since his unexpected death twenty years ago. They are
still in search of, and argue about, who he really was - a complex, flawed
    genius.
