Our name was Arrow Squad. But in order to continue on, we had to become something else. We are now the Al Sah-Him Squad! Which is still Arrow Squad, just in a different language and no memory of our former existence. Wednesday April 8, 2015 will be a very sad day when 8/7c comes and goes without a new episode of Arrow. The CW is taking a week break for its shows and resuming next week, April 15, 2015, with the first of a five week run into the finale. But just because Arrow is taking a week off doesn't mean Arrow Squad needs to! In the shortest episode of Arrow Squad ever, The Shadow lays down what exactly we intend to do with our bye-week.

This week we want to hear from YOU! We realize that there is not a lot of time between a new Arrow episode and the time in which we record our podcast (just over 24 hours), so this is an opportunity to chime in without that pressure of time. The slow build coming off the winter hiatus has not been in vain! Season 3 episode 18, entitled "Public Enemy", brought the heart-racing, heart-wrenching, action-drama we have come to love from Arrow. At its heart, Arrow presents very real characters dealing with very raw situations in a slightly unorthodox fashion. While the goings-on in Starling City might not be as far-fetched as those going on in Central City, the show still centers around three masked vigilantes running around in leather.

The truth is, we all wear masks. We all conceal our identities in some ways to avoid embarrassment or to avoid hardships, the degree to which this is done varies greatly, but it certainly doesn't require a mask to do it. Captain Lance wears his pride as a mask, we might say. Going back to season one when he was drinking heavily and being a jerk all the time, his vice was the sauce and because of one he was the other. Just because he isn't drowning in alcohol doesn't mean pride isn't having the same effect. We spend quite a bit of time going into this idea on the podcast because we know that Cpn Lance's behavior has been frustrating to a lot of fans. Sometimes it takes a well conceived episode, like this one, to look passed the annoyances of his character and really see what the core problem is. Read more...

Thank you for joining us in this 47th installment of Arrow Squad! We're covering Arrow season 3 episode 17 entitled "Suicidal Tendencies", which originally aired on March 25, 2015. As far as appropriately titled episodes go, this one seems to take the prize. Most of our beloved (and not so beloved) characters revealed an innate reaction to protect those around them, in turn putting themselves in danger. But sacrificing oneself is one thing. Season 3 Episode 16 of Arrow entitled "The Offer" picked up right where episode 15 left off - with Ra's Al Ghul asking Oliver to take his place. We discussed on the podcast how similar this scenario is to the tale on Princess Bride, in which Westley becomes the Dread Pirate Roberts in a long line of successors. It's interesting to consider the parallel between Ra's Al Ghul commanding the League of Assassins versus the Pirate Roberts commanding a fleet of pirates, because the same undoubtedly holds true; to an extent, an image must be maintained, and yet to another extent, the missions and objectives invariably change simply due to leadership. As Ra's Al Ghul, Oliver would have tremendous power. But can that power actually be wielded to Oliver's will, or does that power have a will of it's own? Read more...
