A new season is right around the corner so Cal and Rick are back and in midseason podcasting form!  This episode is the Arsenal Season Preview.  Cal discusses Arsenal's preseason friendlies and identifies trends, some good, some not so good, to be on the look out for as the season commences.  What can Arsenal fans expect from each position this season?  Who starts?  Who rotates in?  And who is going to play multiple positions?  All this is discussed is the positional review so you know what to expect once Nottingham Forest rolls into the Emirates.  But that's just the start!

Tottenham spent most of the season in the Top Four and Arsenal spent most of the season on top of the Table.  The results this weekend put those aspirations, at best, on life support, and at worst, buried alongside good intentions and childish dreams.  Rick and Cal, reluctantly, discuss the post mortem of the Tottenham v Villa match and the Arsenal v Brighton game.  They then conduct a brief autopsy for each team.  You'd have thought they would have worn black suits and arrived in a hearse.  However, even if the dreams are buried, the season is not over wo they preview the upcoming fixtures for each team.  All this for the price of 0 dollars, pounds, or Duche marks.

Charles was coronated King, Arsenal were coronated as vengeful victors, and Tottenham were crowned champions of the Rick Nelson Derby.  A busy week in London--and in Wisconsin, so we had to delay our podcast until Wednesday.  In this delayed episode we do not discuss Charles, but discuss Spurs 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, Harry Kane's exploits, and Ryan Mason as current, and potentially,  future Head Coach of Tottenham.  It wasn't cold in Newcastle, and it was definitely hot on the pitch, but Arsenal were cool as they served up their dish of revenge.  Cal revels in Arteta's gameplan, Odegaard's Captain's performance, Jesus' toughness, Xhaka's athleticism (okay, maybe not, but certainly his hustle), and Jorginho's control of the match.  He is significantly less enthused about the officiating in particular and English football in general.   We wrap up the podcast with previews of the upcoming weekend fixtures.  Thank you for listening!

Hope is what binds us together as football fans, it's what binds us to our favorite teams, and it's what we cling to when our favorite team get crushed by 138 charge Man City or are down 3-0 to a rampant Liverpool team at Anfield.  Both those things happened this week our intrepid podcasters are here to discuss it.  But this was a two game week so there is more.  Rick relives Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Man United and Cal laughs at whoever was wearing Chelsea's uniforms and rants at their "fans."  Oh, and he also discusses Arsenal's 3-1 victory, and then laughs at them some more.  The only way it could be funnier is if John Terry were their manager.  Rick previews Tottenham's upcoming London Derby with Crystal Palace and Cal hopes that Arsenal show up on Tyneside looking for the three points they needed last year like Bryan Mills looking for his daughter.

The question is:  could John Cleese play for the Tottenham team that showed up to St James' Park on Sunday.  Granted, he's pretty old now, but his funny walk would have fit right in.  Rick is so mad he'd like to slap Eric Dier with a fish!  However, all he can do is laugh--and we do quite a lot of it in this episode.  Arsenal, on the other hand, started out quite sketchy (too much?).  Cal discusses how the Gunners are Holding on to their 5 point lead at the top of table, what went wrong against Southhampton, and what went right in the last 10 minutes.  Daniel Levy's statement, the Ryan Mason era, and the upcoming fixture against Manchester United is analyzed.  The podcast ends with a preview of the biggest match of this Premier League season:  Arsenal against Manchester City, Arteta against Guardiola, and human against cyborg.  Defending and progressing the ball have been a challenge for Arsenal lately and Cal creates 4 different lineups combinations and formations that can be used to improve in these aspects.  Listen and let us know what lineup and formation you would like to see the Gunners use to win the most important game this season.  Thank you for listening!

Not a lot to be happy about on the Arsenal Tottenham Fan Podcast.  Rick talks about Tottenham throwing away a game to Bournemouth then tries to talk himself into Spurs finishing Fourth.  Cal ain't havin' it.  That's followed by Cal discussing Arsenal coughing up another two goal lead--this time at the London Stadium to West Ham.  Yes, the object in the rear view mirror is larger than it seems.  And to Cal it seems pretty damn large!  We end the podcast by previewing Southhampton's visit to The Emirates and Tottenham's lovely excursion up to Tyneside (don't forget to pack a lunch now boys!).  Thank you for listening!
