Art Zone takes over the beloved Royal Room in Columbia City for its annual all-music special featuring four wonderful and wildly different local bands: sensational indie pop/rock from Cumulus, the smooth sauntering twang of Old Country Rose, psychedelic electro/experimental digital folklore from the masked trio Terror/Cactus, and dazzling soul/punk from Down North. The performances were taped April 9 in honor of National Record Store Day (April 13, 2019). Plus, band members riff on the records that changed their lives.

Choreographer and dancer Mark Haim stitches the movements of 370 people into a compelling new solo performance. Christian French creates public art that is meant to be messed with. Pop/electro-soul artist Scarlet Parke performs two songs from her upcoming debut record "Flight Risk." Northwest Film Forum Artistic Director Rana San curates the calendar. And Georgetown Stables may be home base for Art Zone, but looking pretty on TV is just the tip of what this versatile venue can be! 

Ben Gannon and Joey Veltkamp blur the lines between art and domestic life with cogean?, their house/art gallery. Photographer Mike Hipple celebrates '80s pop stars and the music they made. Science meets dance in a unique collaboration on the grounds of Seattle Center. Clyde Petersen and his band Your Heart Breaks release their ninth record. ACT Theatre takes a fresh approach to "Romeo and Juliet." And impressionist painter Valerie Collymore curates the calendar. 

The exuberant, heartfelt animation of Dawn Norton. Bainbridge Island Museum of Art celebrates its gorgeous and thought-provoking collection of artist's books. Meet Jimi Hendrix, the man, at Northwest African American Museum. James Anaya and The Current perform two songs, including their new single "Jimmy, Dream On." Choreographer and performer Peggy Piacenza curates the calendar. Experience live music in a new way through Sofar Sounds. 

Photographer Deb Achak takes pictures that pack a glorious and sensual punch. Something Weird Video is alive and well thanks to artist Lisa Petrucci's commitment to her late husband's vision. Emma Lai, a Cornish College of the Arts sophomore, choreographs a beautiful short film on the shore of Lake Sammamish. "American Junkie" gets its theatrical world premiere at Book-It Repertory Theatre. Whitney Mongé brings her rock-and-soul sound to the Georgetown Stables stage. And Angie Louise, frontwoman for The Love Markets, curates a calendar chock-a-block full of arty delights!

Art Zone travels to South Park Hall, a beautifully renovated historic building located in the heart of South Park's tight-knit business district. Writer/performer Susan Lieu shares the true and tragic story of her mother's death at the hands of a plastic surgeon. Artist Anthony White paints with plastic, and collectors - local and national - are taking notice. Darren Loucas and his musical dream team perform songs off his latest EP. Author James Rupp explores Seattle's extensive public art collection. Plus, a full-to-the-brim calendar of arty events.

Art Zone travels to The Rendezvous in Belltown where "Pops," the neighborhood's unofficial mayor, shares music, poetry and positive vibes. Poet Quenton Baker shines a powerful light on the 1841 slave revolt aboard the Creole. Artist Robert Yoder considers how we use clothes to tell our stories. Tres Leches bring their good-time experimental sound to the Jewelbox Theater stage. And a remembrance of master painter Robert C. Jones.

Art Zone hits the new year with a power-packed show! The beautiful sculpture of renowned global artist Marela Zacarias transforms Sea-Tac Airport. Local dance company Whim W'him prepares to wow audiences with three new works by three acclaimed choreographers. Arts writers Brangien Davis, Jonathan Zwickel and Katie Kurtz highlight what's hot in the local winter art scene. Scarecrow Video's Matt Lynch returns with a kooky Movie Minute. And Country Lips bring their foot tappin' twang to the Georgetown Stables stage.

Art Zone wraps up the year in style with a "Best of 2018" celebration featuring a few of our favorite artists and bands! The dynamic lineup includes Jed Dunkerley, Lauren Weedman, Giants in the Trees, Basquiat at Seattle Art Museum, The Moondoggies, John Grade, Beth Barrett of SIFF, Ruler, Frank Video, Mick Rock, Parisalexa, and Robert E.
