In memory of my friend, music partner, and genius guitarist, Gerard Kelly https://soundcloud.com/stumpymusic
He was working on this cover version when he passed, mid summer 2026.
Gerard played, programmed, and mixed, all drums, bass, wind sections, piano, and guitars, on this cover version.
I just contributed moog synthesizer, as directed by him.
But he passed away as he was working on it - and this was his last version of the mix.
So I 'mastered' this version, and I'm placing it in here, as a humble homage to my friend and music partner, who definitely passed far too soon.
The wonders of the ©ovid vax - Gerard's own words, not mine. Though I fully concur.
The Starsky & Hutch theme was one of the early things that made us connect when we met in London, late 1994, as we formed dexdexter, together with Gage on bass.
It just so happened we ended up working with Colin Thurston a couple of years later, under recording contract with Rough Trade / Island Records.
Colin had been the engineer for David Bowie's late 70s 'Berlin trilogy' albums.
Colin told us that back in Berlin, during those days, both Iggy Pop and David Bowie would religiously watch the weekly Starsky & Hutch show, during their crazy & hazy days, almost as a ritualistic anchor to reality.
So, it's all quite poised with meaning, at least for me.
And I guess the circle is now complete.
RIP Gerard Kelly and Colin Thurston, both unforgettable.
