you can’t just sit
around and mope
and there ain’t no peace
at the end of a rope
you’ll end up dead
from its painful chokes.
The only thing that keeps
a body living is hope
it’s your very best friend
it heals scars you can’t mend.
You want to marry that
girl, but you can’t elope
love doesn’t work well
when you’re both flat broke.
You keep seeking a job
but they all tell you “Nope.”
so you borrow some cash
but then you spend it on dope.
Even guys on the street
who hold out cardboard signs
that say: “Will work for food”
stand and hope that some time
someone will stop and say
I’ve got work that will pay
then they’ll pick up a job
come the very next day.
You might try burglary
but soon enough you will be
sitting in a jail cell where
hope can’t set you free.
You don’t have a car
so you walk to the bar
you should put that booze
money in a big glass jar
In a year or so you could

There is a whole
lot of real estate
empty space
just left out there
in the souls of so many
who seek love
but don’t have any
hearts that were
once filled with
the happiness of two
now cobwebbed and
vacant while they
seek someone who
can occupy what
lies derelict of love
chambers echoing
the long lost laughter
unfurnished now
from the floors
to the rafters
with no hope
how do so many cope
with the agony
of being alone
our hearts were meant
to be a happy home
for two and then soon
a warm place for children
that are sired
why do so many
grow so tired
and uninspired
it is not how our
body chemistry is wired
Our hearts hold
lots of room
they were not meant
to be a lonely tomb
yet the world is full
of unreal estate
souls emptied of
any chance to share
love’s sweet romance
because past love’s that failed
have closed heart’s doors
some choose not to take
another chance
only solo beats
like metronomes
pound endlessly
in hearts that no
longer are a home
sustaining only one
who is all alone
empty real estate
until they meet the fate
of death demolishing
the symbolic dwellings
where love once
flourished and nourished
all those left alone
Hearts were meant
to be shared by two
souls are meant to sing
a duet of love that’s true
do not let your
hearts fall into disrepair
there are millions of hearts
out there all looking share
room for someone who cares

but there aren’t any answers
I can find at this time

or just turn and walk out
but there’s distance in your
eyes when I’m talking to you
and I don’t see the warmth
in them I always knew….

my stomach’s all queasy
my heart’s feeling fractured
at your current stature
cause it feels manufactured
you seem no
longer enraptured….baby
I’ve feel like I’m love’s ghost
and you’re the reluctant host
of a guy you once cherished
no longer present but post-
oh, Baby where did you go
I guess I just want to know….
You don’t call me up
everyday like you used to
I miss that sweet tone
of the sound of your voice
the most beautiful blessing in
my day full of noise
all our kisses hello and our

have grown short and not

Sometime I wish
I could just snap my fingers
and all the problems that linger
between us would just vanish.
If we could just agree
to be disagreeable
at least we would be agreeing
and some of love’s conflicts
would be banished.
Far too often
we snap each other
and smother
what we really feel
cause we both know
that our love is real
our love is real.....
It always comes gently back
after we make up
It chooses to reveal
How much we
need each other
in spite of the fights
that bring too
many lonely nights.
In a bed to hard to cross
so we lay like statues
just suffering the loss.....
We are like boxers in a ring
who pummel each other
until the final bell
and then we embrace
Like long, lost friends
no longer caring
which one of us
won at the end,
which one of us
won at the end.
But there is no magic
that can wrought
by my snapping fingers
and I guess we
should be grateful
that our arguments
have always brought
us both a much
stronger love.
Making us survivors
of the cutting tongue
and the sharpness of
our shoulder blades
turning away until our arms
reach towards each other
begging us to stay.
I would not want it
any other way....
we do not run from what
threatens our love
we stand and fight
till we get it right.
And all the
times in between
the petty things that
try to separate us
will never make
each other hate us.
We just turn
back to loving
all that we are
between the conflicts
that assail so many other
couples whose love fails.
And so I thank you
in a way that is not snide
for all the times we fought
and you made peace

I am inviting you quite sadly
to the closing of my heart & soul
while their doors to welcome you
are still halfway apart on hold
in hopes that you’ll
change the way you feel
and choose not to depart
but if you do they’ll seal up tight
to protect my broken soul and heart
The windows of my eyes still seek
to glance into your own
where in your eyes they once enjoyed
love like I’ve never known....
but you have raised a wall between
my drawing close to you
an emotional block that reaches
higher then my deepest blues
and there’s little left to do.
The doors to your heart hold a sign
that tell me the whole story
in red letters that let me know
you are closed for inventory.
As you root through all of the
precious moments that I left there
till all that we both cherished
might soon vanish in thin air
which is more than I can bear
there’s a new guy who is lingering
in the shadows down the block
someone you are now considering
while your clearing what we’ve stocked
who is eager to rent spacious rooms
in your precious heart and soul
but I’m hoping you’ll turn him away
