She was a young,
hopeful dream
Sipping Pina Coladas,
Out with three other girls
And I was thinking I oughta
Have two more shots of courage
On that night as a squatter,
On a bar stool so lonely
Where my eyes had first caught her.
It had been such a long time
Since I’d dared to approach,
A girl as lovely as she was
With all my feelings exposed,
But that night stretched before me
Offering no one to spend,
Time just laughing and chatting
Full of empty again……

She was so far above my expectations
From the abyss in which I existed,
One of earth’s most enticing creations
And so my heart resisted….

Do you know what it’s like
to be so damned lonely?
when you’ve never felt
sweet lips upon your own
and you never hear that
ring tone on your phone
with a chance to hear
some sweet words
from your lover
when they can’t be near
when you’ve grown so numb
you never shed a tear
each time you see your
sorrow in your
bathroom mirror
you watch T.V. and realize
that the only thing more
remote than you is
you channel changer
or you lie in bed
and make love
with a stranger
who isn’t even there
the emptiness of lonely nights
is one of humans cruelest bites
there are men who are not
legally divorced
that lie beside their
cold wife with remorse
just going through the motions
knowing that each
night what’s next
will be anything but sex
and women who have husbands
always out screwing around
but sharing their wife’s
dire needs is something that
is seldom found
Dinners for one at restaurants
trying to act so nonchalant
while couples all
around you haunt
your days and nights
with endless wants.

tried to meet somebody
after just one date
they are not the one

and then there are wannabe’s……
who always fail to capture
any literary rapture
You can
take a path
that’s logical
and go to
someplace tropical
enjoying weeks away
from any of life obstacles
while sitting on a beach chair
enjoying cherry popsicles
as you skillfully chronicle
all the beauty that
surrounds you
for a travel periodical
becoming someone that
society calls rich & prodigal
Improving your moods
in ways most psychological
which could leave your latest
income uneconomical
but that would just be trivial
matched against the relaxation
of your journey as a whole
such a trip would soothe your soul.
as what you publish would be gold.
as the checks for what you write
come in the mail
Or you could call yourself a writer
that some magazine would hire
never realizing that you were
just a pathological liar
sitting at your desk in Iowa
with no background
check required
in this job you have acquired
in a tiny office space above
some body’s old garage
where you’d create a true mirage
using Google to inspire you
with all the paradises
found around the earth
knowing you were fooling them
with each and every word
getting paid for something so absurd
while filling your soul with great mirth
achieving temporary fame
sending splendid, written work you claimed
you wrote beneath palm trees
In a hammock near some distant seas
there are two ways writers can appease
their hungry creativity
taking a path that is more logically
a place that you saw visibly
and wrote about what physically
lay spread before you beautifully
or spend some
weeks in winter’s gray
at a small, cramped desk
typing away
while becoming geographically
a writer whose a liar
tainting authorships desires
writing false work uninspired
till they find out and you’re fired.
but I am heading for Tahiti
where you skills will never beat me
with your Des Moines styled graffiti
penning totally made up visions
you’d best be heeding my prediction
you’re better off just writing fiction

For you, my dying friend
let’s just pretend
there is no end
while doctors all attend
to your dying needs
Death can’t succeed.
It will not break the bond
that we both stumbled on
it never, ever will be gone
and I will not let you go
your only stepping out
for just a while
to a place I cannot go
this I truly know
and I must tell you so
with my whispered words
although they’ll sound absurd
I have been where you are at
though I never told you that
I’ve experienced near death….
and I have shared its aftermath
It’s something I have seen
back when I was a Marine
I floated right out of my body
and it was painless and serene
as I was looking down at me
and it surprised me rather oddly
that it all went so peacefully
but in a choice
I’m sure was Godly
and with the aid of other men
my soul was flung back
and wow it awed me
because I could breathe again
and though I cannot promise you
I’m sure you’d be a
doubting Thomas
that what happened
to me will occur
when your passing
comes upon us
but it truly will not matter
our friendship
never will be shattered
cause I know there’s
something more beyond
the flesh we wear
we just move on
and I will meet you
when it’s time
for me to bid this
world goodbye
some where above
the clouds so high
at some golden gate
where you will wait
after finding out
I met my fate
and my soul will
fly to you
where out friendship
in a different form
will at long last
be renewed
for now I’ll sit here
as you pass
and you’ll be looking
for me when at last
we both will be together

I’m just so sad about the gap
