These Thorny Crowns we bear.
We wear our pain in the lines of our faces
perhaps our brains were once smooth too
and are slowly wrinkled by lifes consistent
crumpling of hopes and dreams and joys
We pay our dues as the years collect their tolls
in royalties that leave us in a higher state
but wearing a crown of thorns...
Even Jesus in his short span on this earth
of trying to shed light on the darkness
and bring troubled souls to peace
was forced by the masses in mockery
of his humble simplicity to wear a crown of thorns..
They scoffed at his kingdomship and yet this
single son of a carpenter endures
over 2,000 years later as the most
recognized and uttered name in all of history
Had they only known that just one drop of blood
from his thorn pierced brow could have
healed all the disease and suffering forever
they would have fallen prone in awe before
his nailed and bloodied feet and their lots
in life would have been cast in a much higher direction
as children we gather dandelions to show our love
and to weave and wear in our hair
with Spring in our steps
as adults we gather thorns to mar the scars
that life inflicts upon our heads
Only love can remove the crown and it must be
gentle love that eases the cursed title
from our brows smoothing the wrinkles and leaving
the healing marks of one on thier way
to clearer thoughts
There are few on this planet skilled in such
uncompromising love and so often we seek
out the the King Of Kings to grant us pardon
Thus he in his ultimate wisdom sends an answer
our way to remove the thorny flesh
and instill peace.....
Peace to you and yours this year
a crown of thorns is worn by all
some hide it well but others let it show
to all those around it, the follies
of its taxing glory and it's sorrows
