As asylum seeker who sparked protests is jailed

In late March 2026, Ahmad Mulakhil, a 23-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, was sentenced to 15 years in prison (with an additional year on licence) for the abduction and rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. In July 2025, just four months after arriving in the UK via a small boat, Mulakhil abducted the young girl near a park and repeatedly raped her, filming the assault on his phone.
