The Whiskeytown Cemetery escaped flooding in 1962 only to face destruction by fire in 2018.

The Little Butte Mountain Men club got its name in 1960 when Al Osterman of Lake Creek, Ore., and other muzzleloading enthusiasts joined to promote the safe use and ownership of firearms, especially the black powder long rifles of yesteryear.

In September 2018, a wildfire exploded in northern Shasta County alongside Interstate 5, its 300-foot-high flames forcing freeway motorists to ditch their vehicles and run for their lives. The fire burned 63,000 acres of timber and brush, as well as 120 structures, including a handful of homes and commercial buildings in the sparsely populated area.

Edward G. Brown, owner of a saloon and pool hall in downtown Medford, Ore., had an adventurous wife, Daisy, who in 1919 took one of the first commercial flights in Medford.

For John R. Smith, construction of his Floras Lake Resort proved slow due to difficulties getting material and equipment into the remote location on the Southern Oregon Coast. With the accommodations scarcely complete, he held a grand opening in the summer of 1926.

In 1934, Civilian Conservation Corps crews erected a complex of three buildings on Long Ridge near Brookings, Ore. They included a residence, storage building, and a privy. The crews also developed a natural spring in a nearby thicket of wild azalea.

In 1961, the Army Corps of Engineers’ Rogue Basin Project proposed a dam on the Applegate River for flood control and irrigation that required purchasing property from 36 private owners and the Copper Store.
