In a world where pintrest and facebook are setting the social norms, people are getting more and more attached to their comforts and ways of living. As Christians we need to prepare ourselves for the suffering God has called us to. Pintrest isn’t going to help with that.

Romans 8:28 should not be used to encourage unbelievers! It is written to Christians. Only those who love God have the assurance that things are working for their good!

In this episode I encourage us to be more proactive during the holidays. Do something outside your normal traditions!!

Ever since I’ve had children, I’ve sang this phrase based on the Budweiser commercials “Real Men of Genius,” whenever my kids do really dumb things. So, I finally had to make a parody of what was in my head. I know every parent can relate. Enjoy!

Singer: Real children of genius.

Narrator: Today we salute you, Kid-Who-Cuts-Their-Own-Hair.

Singer: You’re that kid who cuts their own hair!

Narrator: Just when your parents thought they could trust you, you prove them wrong.

Singer: Teaching them a lesson.

Narrator: Placing those gleaming blades to your bangs, you made a bold statement.

I don’t need no stylist!

Singer: Barbers are for barbarians.

Narrator: Filling the bathroom floor with those curly golden locks, you jumped in the driver’s seat of your own life, and stepped on the gas.

Singer: Where are you going anyway?

Narrator: Mom clips and combs in a valiant attempt to make it not look hideous, but everyone at church knows what happened. You can’t hide ugly.

Singer: Why is momma crying while daddy’s posting video.

Narrator: “Excuse me kid,” the school photographer says, “you’ve got a little scalp showing there.”

Singer: I’m sorry mom. The mullet slash bowl cut slash shorty short bangs just ain’t working.

Or did you mentally check out and watch the light show, or lip the words while thinking about other things?

The Bible exhorts us to sing!

Ephesians 5:19

addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

We are called to make disciples. We shouldn’t be simply living like the world and arranging our lives and plans and schedules the way they do. We have different goals.

Let’s begin thinking like missionaries when they go out to the field by asking ourselves questions about our lives. Things like, “Where should I live? What activities should I partake in? Where should my kids go to school? What groceries should I buy?”

 

What’s our job as Christians? What are we commanded?

Luke 10:27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

How are most Christians living now?

Matthew 24:9-13

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

John 12:43 for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.

Christians are called to radically love others, but what does radical love look like?

1 John 3:17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

John 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

John 12:25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
