All roads lead to Rome. It was a proverb, even in the days of the Apostle Paul. From Rome’s imperial highways, the Empire tightened its grip around the world. For just as all roads led to Rome, so did all roads lead from Rome.
The Apostle Paul, being the master missional strategist that he was, had a plan from the very beginning to preach the good news of the gospel to the Roman Empire. However, every time he intended to make the journey, something else always came up. Even so, like an anthem in big, bold letters, Paul continued to say, “I must see Rome… I must see Rome.”
While ministering in Corinth, Paul heard that another Christian was making the journey to Rome. Before she left, Paul told her that he would send a letter to the church in Rome with her.
By the time it was finished, it was no ordinary letter. No, this was a theological masterpiece—perhaps the greatest of all letters Paul had ever written. This was one of the most important documents the world has ever seen.
Romans is the Gospel according to Paul, and from this incredible letter, we get what’s called the Roman Road. But this isn’t just another road made of dirt, gravel, and volcanic rock. No, this is a road made up of mercy, grace, and faith that leads to eternal life.
