iHeart's Talk Radio KXL broadcasting in Portland, Oregon asked Richard Stockton to come on the air 🎙 to weigh in on office building occupancy rate reaching 50% for the first time since March 2020. Stockton is the Senior Managing Director of Ashford, Inc.

According to a survey by the security company Castle Systems, the average office building occupancy rate in the largest cities in this country was just barely over 50% at the end of last month.

Stockton noted that pre-pandemic, the office occupancy rate was at 85%, but it had dipped to below 30%. He also commented that the recovery in the Northwest is not going quite as well as elsewhere in the country. Seattle and Portland are lagging behind, but he believes that eventually the return to the office will pick up.

Stockton also believes that unused commercial space will be eventually converted to other uses if it doesn't fill up in the near future.
