JINGLE IN

Before he could scooch over and whisper to the bird, on of the hunters’ stood up. Looks like he was the leader of the group. He sighed, and Peter was anxious to see what he would say about this situation. “Well, looks like you pathetic animals were, um, correct. We are sorry for ever doubting you guys.”

“Doesn’t sound very appealing” snapped back the wolf. 

“WE ARE SORRY, OKAY? Deeply, sorry. But, I still don’t understand, how did that thing, that butterfly do all of that? Just sounds a bit impossible.”

“Well you see, though I am one of the smallest creatures on Earth, I can create many significant things. Just because I am small, does not mean I’m not strong or useless.” Ava replied back. 

This phrase stuck Peter. The hunter’s doubted the butterfly at first and thought the recordings were some sort of joke. But Ava the butterfly proved them wrong. Wow, I really really really admire her, Peter thought. 

For the rest of the afternoon, the hunters apologize several times before driving off into the woods. Andrea the wolf threatened them and told them to never come back, and Peter thought that that sure did the trick. Once the hunters were out of sight, Andrea immediately hugged her children. 

Man, thought Peter, the amount of danger these poor animals were in, or were going to be in. Thank goodness I helped. In fact, I feel a lot better, I feel very self-accomplished. \

In the middle of Peter’s thoughts, he felt Andrea the wolf stare at him. Peter immediately tensed and the movement of Andrea kicking him out of the house flashed back vividly in his mind. But to his surprise, Andrea said, “Peter, I’m sorry. I should have never kicked you out of my house. You know, while the hunters were watching the footage, I leaned over and took a glimpse of it as well. You.. you were really playing and helping my children, and I don't think I can thank you more than inviting you over every single day, anytime you want. Sorry, again”

Peter was so shocked for a second that he was a still image. But he quickly snapped out of it and replied, “Thank you so much, Ms Andrea. But really, the one you should be thanking is Ava the butterfly-” Peter was about to address Ava, yet she was nowhere to be found. But the looks on the cat duck, bird and Andrea the wolf’s faces told Peter that they would definitely thank Ava when they see her again. 

A few weeks later, the news of Peter saving four innocent animals spread out instantly. Though his grandfather was quite mad about Peter not telling him any of the adventures he had, he eventually got over it. And just like that, Peter became the most popular kid in his family, neighborhood and school! But Peter never bluffed, because he knows inside his heart that what he did was the right thing to do, and that he could never have done it without the help of all of his animal friends.

It was Ava the butterfly! Wait a second, Peter thought. Ava looked 10 times bigger than usual! She was around the size of the bird now! 

“I, Ava the butterfly, has been the cat, bird and duck’s legal guardian for the past year while Andrea the wolf was away for her vacation. In fact, Andrea the Wolf discussed with me about this matter before she left, so she technically did hire a legal guardian, me! Furthermore, that boy, Peter has also been helping the three animals every single day.” said Ava. 

The hunters smirked. The hunter in the middle said, “Funny one, butterfly. By now, you should know that in order to prove your point, you will need evidence.”

“In that case, I actually do,” Ava calmly replied. “You see, there has been security cameras in this house.” She flew to one placed on top of the brick one. “There’s this one on the brick wall, one on the top of the hut, another one in that left corner, and one placed on that tree to get an overview of the entire yard.” The hunters just rolled their eyes. Ava continued “Fine, if you don't believe me, I have tape footage. Here” Ava flew to the hunter and handed them the tape recordings. After a while of discussion, the hunters decided to watch a little bit of the footage. 

Meanwhile, Peter was astonished. Ava has come to save the day, again. Just was just incredible to believe that Ava has done all of these things, and above all of that, she’s a tiny little butterfly! 

Peter averted his eyes to the hunters. Their expressions were very interesting. It was if they have found something disturbing. Peter discreetly shuffled to his right to get closer to hear what the hunters’ were talking about. He could faintly make out this:

“Huh, looks like she really did do it”“No way, thats just the first few days, she probably gave up in the middle”“Ugh, these bunch of people sure are annoying. We should just capture animals from the next village next time”

Yes, it looks like this is working. I have to thank Ava a million times after this. Peter said. Then, he scanned the rest of the animals. Andrea the wolf was shocked, her eyes were as wide as two tomatoes and her jaw was open. The cat and duck were stuck close to each other, staring at the hunters with fearful eyes. ANd, behind them was.. The bird? Wait, Peter thought, how did the bird get here, wasn’t he stuck on the tree?

Peter watched with a smile as the bird flew up into the sky, circling above the hunters. 

Come on, Peter, get to work. Peter thought. The reason the bird is flying up in the sky is so that you can have more time to save the others. 

Peter looked around, but did not see any other cages. Weird, Peter thought, where are the other cages? They can't just disappear out of nowhere. 

Suddenly, Peter heard a faint cry. As he listened closely, it wasn't even a cry, it was a meow! And there was only one animal that Peter knew that could meow like that. It was the cat! Peter listened again. The noise seemed to be coming from the truck. 

Of course! Peter thought. THe other animals were probably already loaded into the truck! 

Peter hurried to the truck, running as fast as his little legs could carry him. As he was running, he turned back to see the bird. It was starting to slow down, and lose energy. Peter ran even faster. 

When Peter arrived at the truck, he was thankful that it was not locked. Using all of his strength, he pulled the cover of the truck, only to reveal darkness. Wow, Peter thought. The truck sure is pretty big. Thank goodness I brought my flashlight. 

Reaching into his pocket, Peter pulled out the bulky flashlight. He squinted as he turned the bright light on. Right in front of him, sat the wolf, duck and cat, trapped in metal cages. They all had shocked expressions on their faces, just like the bird. 

Without a word, Peter rushed to the duck’s cage first. He took out his lockpicking kit and started to pick the lock. Once he heard the click, he let the duck out, and did the same with the others. When it came to Andrea the wolf’s cage, she clenched her teeth and snarled at Peter, but soon relaxed her body and allowed Peter to set her free. Once set free, Andrea said, “Get away from my children. You are working with the hunters, aren't you?”

“Um, obviously not. I just saved your lives” Peter replied. “Hurry up, we ain't got a lot of time left.”

Andrea was hesitant at the start, but soon gave in and reluctantly followed PEter. 

Geez, she is one stubborn one. Peter thought. 

After getting off the truck, Peter gasped. The bird that was flying was now stuck in a tree. Oh no, Peter thought, I must take action now. Without even thinking he ran towards the hut and flashed his flashlight at the hunters, despite it being daytime. He told the wolf, cat and duck to stay behind. IN an instant, he caught all of the hunters’ attention. 

One hunter ordered “he set free all of the animals! Get him”“Wait, hold on.” Peter shouted. “I just wanted to talk”“Oh yea, what do you want to say?” asked one hunter. “I just want to ask, why are you capturing these animals? They are all innocent and have committed nothing at all!” Peter cried, ignoring the dramatic gasp from the wolf. 

“Well, here is where you are proven wrong, little boy. That wolf, was said to have left the three kids alone for a one year holiday. This is absolutely unacceptable, since there was no guardian at all. These kids could have been in danger, which is why we are taking the wolf away.”

“Well, if that is your argument, you are very wrong,” said someone. ‘They all swung their heads backwards. And Peter gasped in joy at the sight in front of him.

Oh no, Peter thought. Am I too late? 

Peter looked up, and saw Ava the butterfly flapping her wings. 

“What took you so long, Peter?” Ava curiously asked. 

“I.. uh, wandered off… Anyways, how’s the situation right now?” Peter stammered. 

“Not looking good. Looks like the hunters are ready to take the cages to the truck and head off.” Ava replied. 

“What?” Peter shouted. “All the animals are already inside the cages? No, this cant be. Ava, I’m really sorry, but could you please freeze some more time? I have a plan up my sleeve. I’m going to lockpick all of the locks on the cages, and set the animals free. Then, I will confront the hunters, and finally, I will save the day by keeping all of the animals safe.” 

“Uhh, yea.. That is definitely not possible” Ava truthfully said. “I can only freeze enough time for you to lockpick one animal. You know, I do have my freezing power limitations per day.”

“Okay, fine. Just.. do it quickly, please, we don't have much time left” Peter pleaded/. 

Peter saw the butterfly smile again, and she flapped her wings so quickly that Peter could not even see the blurry image in front of him. The familiar sensation of time slowing down came to Peter’s mind. He sensed a headache coming, and everything around him was spinning like a tornado.

Whoosh! Peter immediately put the lockpicking kit in his pocket and grabbed the rope in his bag and lassled it to one of the spikes in on the gate. Then, using all of the energy he had left, he pulled himself up, higher and higher, until he was on the other side of the gate. 

You have no time to waste. Peter told himself. 

Once he was on the other side, Peter snatched the lockpicking kit out of his pocket and rushed over to the bird’s cage. He has decided to free the bird first, as it can fly around the hunters, confusing and distracting them, buying Peter more time to save the others. Peter observed the bird. Its’ wings were in midair, as if it were flapping before the time froze. The bird’s mouth was also wide open, signaling that it was probably shouting and chirping. 

Dont worry, thought Peter, I will save you, I will save all of you. 

He took out his lockpicking tools and started picking the lock. 

After a while, Peter heard a click. It worked! The lockpicking worked! Just in time, because time started to resume to normal. 

In an instant, all the hunters started moving again. Peter panicked, but told himself to stick to the plan. He turned his head and stared at the bird. The bird jumped, and chirped,”Gosh, Peter, what are you doing here?”

“I'm here to save you and your friends,” Peter said while opening the cage. The bird gasped in joy, seeing that he would be free. “Now, I have only had time to lockpick your cage. So now, I want you to fly above the hunters head, and distract them while I help the wolf, cat and duck. Okay?” 

“No problem, Peter, thanks for helping us out” chirped the bird. Then, the bird flew off into the sky, catching all of the hunters’ attention. 

“Hey, that's the bird, isn't it?” shouted one of the hunters. 

Peter smiled. He quickly looked up at the sky, only to see the bird wink at him. Pter smiled, hoping that his plan would work.

Peter looked around him. The hunters stopped whatever they were doing. The cat, duck and bird stopped moving. When he looked up, the butterfly was even frozen. 

Woah, this is so cool! I have always wondered what would happen if time slowed down! Peter thought. 

Blinking out of his awestruck, he started walking across the field. The aroma of flowers blooming was overwhelming, setting Peter’s allergies aflare. As he observed the nature surrounding him, The magnificent array of early-budding trees have “flowers” already bloomed; the dandelions and daffodils have already sprouted all over the yard, and the grass has turned a vibrant shade of green to contrast the dull shades it darns in the winter. 

Oh my, how wonderful this is! I completely forgot how break-taking the fields are in the past three months! Peter thought. 

Something about nature was different when time was frozen. Everything around him seemed to stand out more, and Peter felt the urge to go observe nature more.is feet dragged him to a sunflower that was dancing along with the sways of the wind. 

Wow, I have never seen a sunflower up close. It’s… simply amazing. 

Peter got lost in the beauty of nature, observing one flower after another. It was as if he were in a trace of the fields. No matter how much he wanted to save his friends, the flowers just dragged him closer to them, as if its hypnosis was stopping Peter from completing his mission. 

Then, Peter had a flashback. 

THe hunters chased the cat and bird, swimming after the duck. Andrea the wolf swinging her tail furiously and howling desperately, all to no avail. The hunters pushed the animals in a cage, despite their strong cries. And, at last, Ava. Ava was the one who helped Peter freeze the time. And she wanted him to retrieve a basket full of fruits for her children. Peter could still remember the worry and des[air in her eyes. 

Come on, Peter. All of your friends are waiting for you. You must complete this mission if you want to save them. Stop getting distracted by the flowers. Peter scolded himself. 

With that being said, Peter rushed to his grandfather’s house, climbed over the gate in a matter of 15 seconds, and burst open the front door, panting. 

Ok, Peter, now what do you need to save your friends? 

Peter certainly did not know what to carry a gun to blast away all the hunters. The last thing he wanted to do was to create even more violence. He wanted to solve this situation in a peaceful manner. 

Well, hunters carry flashlights with them all the time, so maybe I can draw their attention with a huge flashlight of my own. Peter thought. Maybe I can also get my lockpicking kit and a rope to help my friends out. 

Peter quickly gathered all of the things he needed and exited the house. Just as he was about to climb over the gate, he realized that he forgot something really important. He rushed back to the house, and grabbed the basket of fruits on the dining table. Ava the butterfly would really be mad if he had forgotten about the only request from her. 

Peter quickly climbed over the gate and ran across the field. But as he was running, he realized that the birds started chirping again, and the bees in the sky started to move. 

Oh no, Peter thought. Am I too late?

“Hey, don’t give up so easily, I can help you,” answered someone. 

Peter froze on the spot. Who was this? What if it's a trap! Oh, no, what should I do?But, thinking again, Peter realized that this voice was mellow, and very very familiar. 

“Who are you! I’m not afraid!” Peter shouted out. “You will know who I am if you just turn around” answered the mellow voice. Out of his pure curiosity, Peter immediately turned around. Wait, where are you, I can’t see you anywhere! “Ugh, Peter, I like only a bit bigger than a speck of duck. Love above, I am the butterfly you saw!” said the butterfly. 

Peter looked up. There was indeed a butterfly, and wait, this is the butterfly that Peter saw a few minutes ago! 

“Oh, hi there. Pretty sure that we have met each other before. You know, I used to visit this hut everyday to play with the cat, duck and bird, and-” 

“Yes, Peter, I know everything. I have been following you everyday to the hut. In fact, I have also been taking care of the cat, bird and duck as their temporary legal guardian. Anyways, I’m Ava, and I can help you fix this situation.” said the butterfly. 

“I’m no ordinary butterfly. I am a butterfly that can freeze time, meaning that I can allow someone to move while the entire world is frozen in time. So, I am willing to help you by freezing enough time so that you can rush back to your house and grab everything you need.”

“Oh, ok, that’s great! Well, not asking you to hurry, but it might be best for you to start freezing time magic power right now,” Peter replied. 

“Hold on, I’m not just going to let you use my magic power like that” the butterfly said. “Well, why not?” Peter asked. “Because that is not fair for me” the butterfly snapped back. 

Geez, she's got some attitude. Never knew butterflies were so fierce.

But Peter calmed down. Ok, don’t get mad at her, this is your only chance to save your best friends, so don’t ruin it. 

“Sure, no problem Ava. I would be willing to do anything for you” Peter replied in his sweetest tone possible. 

“Great, my needs are simple~. You know all the fruits your grandfather has? Well, I would like the entire basket. Too many creatures are growing here in the field, and we are fighting everyday for food. I am a single mother to five children, and I really want my kids to grow up well,” the butterfly said. 

At this moment, Peter felt a pang of sympathy for the butterfly. Humans and animals are the only thing everyone cares about. We don’t even think about insects and other small and big creatures in the world.  

Taking a deep breath, Peter said,“Yes, I will definitely do that for you, Ava.”

Peter only saw the butterfly smile, and she flapped her wings so quickly that Peter could not even see the blurry image in front of him. Suddenly, Peter had a headache, everything around was spinning, spinning and spinning. 

Ahh, stop this sensation! I’m going to throw up! Peter yelled in his head. 

Whoosh! Everything was quiet. You couldn’t even hear a single cricket chirping anymore. Peter’s mission has officially begun.

Peter lassled his rope around one of the spikes of the gate, and pulled himself higher, higher, and higher off the ground until he was on the other side. 

As Peter strode across the green fields, he couldn't help but smile at the sight of the singing birds chirping, as well as the magnificent sweet scent of the sunflowers. But when he saw the hut, his eyes went wide. 

Peter felt lightning crackle through his veins and time slowed down. His body slightly  jumped up and away from the vicious scene right in front of his own eyes. He was too stunned to move. No, This shouldn't be possible, it can't be possible.

He saw a group of armed hunters, about 7 of them, surrounding  Andrea the wolf, the cat, duck and bird. 5 of them were capturing Andrea, beating and torturing her with a whip and stick. Peter could clearly see Andrea kicking her legs and howling desperately as she squirmed in the hunter’s grip. She showed her sharp teeth and claws, and even her dangerous green eyes, trying to threaten or scare away the hunters, but no one seemed to ever notice. Andrea also tried to act weak and fragile, relaxing her limbs to minimize her size and showing the hunters her watery eyes. But all the five hunters continued their job mercilessly, preparing the strong metal cage they will be putting the wolf in. 

Meanwhile, the other two hunters were capturing the cat, duck and bird. The first hunter whose job was to capture the cat, kept on running in circles trying to catch the mischievous cat. It looked quite entertaining at first, until the hunter threw his web in the cat's direction and tangled the cat up. Cat meows loudly, and scratched the hunter several times and whacked him with the fluffy yet strong tail. All was no use, and the situation turned even more futile when the hunter started firing loud noises and bringing the metal cage over to the cat’s direction. 

The second hunter whose job was to catch the duck had a harder task. The duck waddled faster than lighting and splashed in the pond, diving very deep down. 

Peter’s heart lifted. Yes, smart decision, there is no way the hunter can follow the duck. 

But Peter’s hope immediately fell a hundred feet when he saw the hunter diving in and chasing the duck, not even thinking twice about his thick suit soaking wet. The hunter swam much faster than the duck, and grabbed one of the duck’s feet in no time. 

No, they are taking this too far. Way too far. I have to stop this. Peter thought. But wait, Peter you have to think smartly. There are seven hunters out there, all armed with weapons, and you have nothing but a scared little face. There is no way you can stop or do anything in the crowd. Perhaps you might even get yourself into trouble, Peter deeply reflected. 

Ok, maybe I can find some tools in my house that can help this situation improve. But there is no way I will have time to rush back and come back here again. Ugh! What do I even do!

“Hey, don’t give up so easily, I can help you,” answered someone.

Welcome back to Classical Adventure. In the last episode, Peter got caught by Andrea, the wolf. He was never ever ever allowed to go back to the hut to play with the cat, duck and bird. Will Andrea ever change her mind? What do you think will happen next?

For the next three months, Peter was alone. He had no one to talk to, only his grandfather, who he politely rejected. There was even a point where Peter started wondering if he would have any friends at all in his life. He was always the outlier in his school because he had no friends, he was also the outlier in his family because all of his cousins were 10 years older than him; and now, he is the outlier of his neighborhood, because he has no one to play with. 

Peter eventually grew tired of his life, so he decided to make things right with Andrea the wolf, so that he could play with his animal friends again. 

{It was all just one misunderstanding,} Peter thought. 

On Saturday, Peter gathered all of his courage to talk to the wolf. He pushed his chair and got up, tiptoeing his way out of his study room. Then, he rolled behind the couch in the living room to check on his grandfather. As expected, his grandfather was taking his afternoon nap after lunch. Sneaking to the front door, Peter immediately put his hands on the door knob. That touch was like a tight embrace before the abyss of freedom. Oh, how much Peter missed visiting the cat, bird and duck. What wonderful memories. 

But at the same time, Peter was terrified. Last time, he left a really bad first impression and Andrea the wolf kicked him out of her hut and garden, never allowing him in again. Peter thought: this is like my last chance to  prove to Andrea the wolf that I am no harm to her children, and all I want to do is to play with them. Peter thought of this to be optimistic, but really, on the inside he was thinking: this is your last chance to get friends, or else you are alone forever. 

So, taking a very deep breath, Peter turned the doorknob, and walked up to the gate. 

As he strode across the field, Peter discovered footprints coming from the woods. 

{Hmm, this is interesting, I usually never see footprints in the field. Chugwater Bay is not a common place in the village and usually no one enters.} 

Peter also noticed that the footprints had a special print. He remembered from his history lessons that only military groups wear boots that have his print. 

{But why would the military team be here in Chugwater Bay?} Peter was very confused. 

He kept on walking to the hut, but was suddenly stopped by a butterfly. It was blue and had black polka dots on its wings. 

{Wait, isn’t this the same butterfly I saw the first day I visited the cat, bird and duck?} Peter thought. Except this time, the butterfly seemed oddly different. 

{Why does the butterfly look somewhat panicked?}

 Peter thought, as he walked up to the huge brick wall. He grabbed a rope that was in his backpack and lassled it around one of the spikes of the gate. Then, using all of his might, he pulled himself higher, higher, and higher off the ground until he was on the other side.

“No, mom, that is not an intruder, he’s our friend Peter! Let him in and we can all have cookies together!” 

Oh no, this is bad, this is really bad. She actually is back…

“What do you mean? Who is this Peter?” asked Andrea. 

“Mom, he is our friend who visited us all year long when you were on vacation. He is super nice and you can definitely trust him!” exclaimed the bird and cat.

“You let an intruder in this hut without my permission? Do you even remember the last thing I said to you three? WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT LET OTHER PEOPLE ENTER THIS HUT!”

Andrea, the mother, stormed off, leaving the cat, bird and duck by themselves. Peter, who was on the other side of the wall, heard everything and was shivering with fear. 

{Maybe I should leave.} Peter thought. {Yes, I should leave right now.}

Just as Peter was about to run for his dear life, he heard a squeak coming from behind him. He quickly turned around and saw a small crack in the door. “Hey Peter, maybe you should come in and apologize to our mom,” whispered the bird. 

Peter hesitated. 

{Would going in turn this situation from bad to even worse? Well, it's at least worth trying. You never know what's going to happen.} So, taking a deep breath, Peter entered the hut.  

{“So, what should I say?”} Peter nervously asked. “Well, just say whatever your heart desires.” replied the bird“Yeah, we know you do feel really sorry deep down in your heart, Peter” the cat encouraged“So all you need to do is to express it with your words,” added the duck.

{Okay, express with words, that should be easy enough}. 

Peter was mentally forming a nicely written letter in his mind when he heard footsteps approaching. It was Andrea, the mother of the three animals. She gasped when she saw Peter and yelled:

“What did I just tell you three? Not to let intruders in! And out of all the intruders out there, you chose to allow a human being inside our hut! Do you know how dangerous they are? They can kill you three with a bang and cook you for dinner!”

Peter immediately interrupted, “Um, no ma’am, that is not my intention at all. All I wanted to do is to play with your children in my free time so that I have company. I would never kill your children”

But no matter how hard Peter tried to convince Andrea that he was doing no harm, he was eventually kicked out of the hut and never allowed to go back again. 

{Ah, why did I make such a stupid mistake?}Peter sorrowly bowed down his head as he plodded back home, reluctantly climbing over the gate, and returning to this study room.

Welcome back to Classical Adventure! In the last episode, Peter discovered what was behind the tall brick wall - it was a lovely garden and a hut. Inside a hut lived three adopted animals, a cat, a bird and a duck. Peter got along pretty well and they spent the entire afternoon playing with each other. But something goes wrong in this episode. What do you guys think will happen?

Peter absolutely loved visiting the cat, bird and duck in his free time. It was probably the only thing that was better than Biology. Soon, Peter was able to sneak out everyday, as he found out his grandfather’s sleeping schedules. Each time he visited, he would bring something different like a nunchuck, a Monopoly game, Nintendo Switch, you get the point. 

This continued for an entire year. Peter even found time during school to visit the hut. Everything seemed perfect, right? But little did Peter know that Andrea, the foster mother of the cat, bird and duck, will be coming home on March the 1st. 

The duck has already warned Peter several times that Andrea would come home soon, but Peter never really paid attention. 

So on March 1st, Peter happily skipped through the fields, picking up flowers as he went. Cherubs, lavenders, roses, lilies, they were all in his basket. Spring has just broken through, and Peter could not be happier.  

When he arrived at the brick wall, he took out his grappling hook as always and climbed up the wall. As he walked towards the hut, Peter noticed something weird. 

{Hmm, that’s strange, why do I hear 4 voices, instead of 3?} 

Peter shrugged, perhaps it was his own imagination. He knocked three times before opening the door. 

{“Ugh! Why is this door so hard to open today? It usually isn't this heavy...”} Peter grunted, using all his might to push the door. 

“Children, help me black this intruder out! It's probably a hunter! Quick, this is life or death!” shouted an unfamiliar voice.
