Gratitude begins with an awareness of God. So often, busyness, distraction, entitlement, and even forgetfulness prevent us not only from being grateful people — but from experiencing the presence of God.

As followers of Christ, we hold both joy and sorrow at once. Weeping is an acknowledgement that things are not the way God intended them to be, and laughter and dancing are an acknowledgement that the resurrection has the last word. God abides in both of these seasons of life, encouraging us to allow ourselves to feel the joys and pains of each authentically.

Following Jesus isn’t always easy. In life, we’re constantly faced with struggles, discouragement, and despair. Jesus invites us to keep going.

Ecclesiastes teaches us that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” The seasons we experience in life, whether joyful or difficult, teach us Who is in control and how to respond to the larger story God is writing in our lives.

In the end of the book of Exodus, we find a spiritually restless group of Israelites impatiently waiting for Moses to return from the mountain. They abandon their trust in the Lord, instead creating a golden calf to worship in His place. God is furious with their actions, telling Moses He plans to destroy them. Moses pleads for God to relent, and He does.

This passage of Scripture reveals a part of God’s character that we often like to ignore. But, we also find that He’s not just a God who punishes — He’s a God who forgives.

As the Israelites journey through the wilderness, God goes with them. Listen as Pastor Steve continues our dive into the book of Exodus, focusing on the tabernacle and ways God continues to reintroduce Himself to His people after their time in Egypt.

The next few chapters of Exodus bring us to the Ten Commandments. Rules and laws from the Lord may feel restrictive or even cruel. In reality, God gave these laws to the Israelites as a gift — a way to provide structure and peace to the chaos of God’s people as they wandered in the desert.

The next few chapters of Exodus are full of both praise and grumbling. The Israelites are quick to forget God’s goodness and faithfulness, and yet, He still provides each time they’re in need. Even when man grumbles and panics, God gives and provides.

As we continue exploring the book of Exodus, we learn that sometimes following God might not be in the direction we think or the time we think. However, there’s always a reason for the way God is leading us. In Exodus 13 and 14, we finally come to one of the most famous parts of this story. Just when the Israelites think all hope is lost, God uses Moses to part the Red Sea and escape the Egyptian army.
