  • ATP125: Mukesh Bubna - Founder of Monexo FinTech

Produced by Pikkal & Co - Award Winning Podcast Agency.
Mukesh Bubna spent over two decades woking for Citibank / Citigroup. He joined fresh out of college and in comparison to India's biggest state owned banks at the time, working at Citizens felt like working at a startup. Management structure was flat and this allowed Mukesh to jump right into interesting projects and learn the bank's operations from the ground up. This lead to moves from India to Singapore and Hong Kong and Mukesh was given the responsibility to help build out the bank's internet banking products and infrastructure. This required constant learning, a theme of Mukesh's entire career at Citi, education him in the agile process of building new software platforms and also getting client feedback as products were being developed. All of this experience now comes in handy as Mukesh and his team build the peer to peer lending business that is Monexo. There are many great nuggets of knowledge in this discussion, but one worth mentioning at the outset is Mukesh's concept of the twelve headed man...Listen as he explains this one and others himself.

I spoke with Andrew about the Luxury Digital market and was fascinated by the opportunities that online to offline presents in this space. Andrew is deeply knowledgeable about luxury products, how they are defined and the status and emotion they illicit in their customers. Technology is playing a larger part in the marketing of luxury goods and is becoming quite creative and powerful in implementing this in immersive experiences in controlled environments.

We had a fabulous conversation with Eileen Seah. She is an experienced and dedicated Executive Coach and Organizational Psychologist. Eileen coaches employees and managers to be their best and focuses initially on having them simply understand themselves. This may sound easy, but in practice it takes a fair amount of effort and expertise. We touched on a multitude of interesting topics, including "Does authority come form your title or vice versa?", creating a work culture that encourages employees to want to come to work as opposed to having to come to work. Eileen believes that Coaching is an important and vital part of career development and maintenance.

  • ATP121: Ollie Halimatussadiah - Why Pioneering Female Entrepreneurs Have to Break The Rules
Discover more tech podcasts like this: Tech Podcast Asia.
Produced by Pikkal & Co - Award Winning Podcast Agency.
Aulia "Ollie" Halimatussadiah is the founder of Zetta Media in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is the second time I've interviewed Ollie for a podcast; she's a guest I wanted to come back to because she's a unique character with her own blend of entrepreneurial guile and rebellious charm (she's a self-confessed "badass"). That's not the typical role expected of young women in Indonesia, but as you'll find out Ollie likes to push the boundaries of what's acceptable. Zetta is a content platform that enables Indonesians to tell their stories, often in ways they are not culturally accustomed to. It's her 3rd startup, the first two being bootstrapped publishing platforms. This is the first time she's actually gone out and raised capital. That's not easy when you are so used to growing businesses organically. One of Ollie's missions is to help build the startup ecosystem in Indonesia, especially for female entrepreneurs through StartupLokal and Girls in Tech Indonesia - with #WhyNot initiative supported by Facebook #SheMeansBusiness.

We all have a story...but we all do not have Rita Nguyen's story. Rita is Vietnamese by birth and grew up in Canada...her mother and father literally escaped from Vietnam in 1979 after 14 attempts with Rita and her siblings. After thriving in the corporate world, Rita decided she wanted to go to Vietnam and learn about the tech scene there. Once there, she realized she loved it so much, she could not leave. Another trip to Myanmar and another world of opportunities opened up. When Rita arrived in 2012, access to the internet was spotty at best, SIM cards were unheard of or insanely expensive and the digital infrastructure was nonexistent. All Rita saw was opportunity...We had a super discussion at the rapid speed of development of all things digital in Myanmar and just how quickly things can change in a short period of time. One of the many interesting things that we discussed was that the build out of the mobile networks in Myanmar was the first time that a country built a data-first network prior to building out its voice network...

We spoke to Sahib Anandsongvit about the struggles of entrepreneurship, the pressures of failure and the expectations of success. Entrepreneurs that come from entrepreneurial families are a special group and Sahib is squarely in this category. He is third generation Indian-Thai and his family came to Thailand, built a business and in many ways that experience directly influences the story of Seekster. Sahib is sharp...and built and conceived Seekster out of his own experiences trying to get the proper level of service for a hotel he was managing. He realized there was a market gap for the type of service he wanted and also noticed that simply creating a marketplace for that service was not good enough. Listen as he explains how he changed to building a robust platform and how it changed his business into the growth opportunity it is today.
