Keir Veskivali is a very interesting guy and he is building an interesting business that is called Smartly.SG. Smartly is based on the premise that investing should be easier for everybody and that “Anyone can be an investor.”

Keir comes from Estonia, like a lot of transformational tech.   He wrote his academic thesis based on research he performed on how teams of early stage startups get formed…and the mistakes that are made over and over again.

After working on a couple of startups in Estonia, he decided to move to Singapore and join the FinTech revolution.  He wanted to build something that would help his Mom and Dad invest better, while including investment education in the process.

I spoke to Shaun Rein in December 2017, just after his book, “The War for China’s Wallet” was published.  I wanted to follow up with him about the book’s initial reception both globally and domestically.  Does Silicon Valley now believe that China can, in fact, innovate?  Do governments globally understand China’s use of economic and political power?

I also asked Shaun to discuss Western arrogance and the potential loss of market influence insie of China for Western brands that just ‘do not get it’.  The result of this arrogance is a growing list of prominent Chinese companies that better serve their domestic market, have a better relationship with Chinese consumers and are years ahead of their Western counterparts in taking advantage of mobile technology to serve their clients.  All in all another insightful conversation with Shaun, one of the most knowledgeable and insightful commentators currently living in China.

Shlomo Freund lives in a town between Haifa and Tel Aviv…sometimes.  He, his wife and his daughter  (OK, she is only 2 years old, but work with me.) are perfecting the ‘slomad’ lifestyle.  They are location independent and when they do choose to live outside of Israel, it is generally for a month or more…

When they travel, they like to live the life of the locals and they like to assimilate slowly…hence the term slomad.  No bus tours and no tourist traps…

Shlomo runs a few businesses and this dovetails nicely with his primary focus, which he calls ‘Free Financial Self’.  This is a business that teaches freelancers and solopreneurs how to plan for, create and maintain financial freedom.  This is a noble goal as it is something most budding entrepreneurs ignore.

Shlomo openly blogs about the growth and decline of his own net worth.  He also advises people about investing, the benefits of diversification and how to avoid correlated assets.
