Infertility in women is somewhat of a taboo topic, particularly in communities of color. This week, my co-host Alana Avis @beautybfly and I @basiapowell wanted to have a positive and inspiring discussion on the topic, "Infertility In Women." We were joined by Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist, Dr. Stephanie Thompson,who is based in New Jersey and her former patient, Mrs. Liz Agbor-Tabi, also from New Jersey.

For most women, it is very difficult for them to make themselves a priority. Often times, we put our husbands, children and other people before ourselves. Within recent years, I have discovered that this is an unhealthy approach and if I am to truly improve my quality of life, I must engage in proper self care by taking care of myself first. Today my cohosts, Ariel Parades , Alana Avis and I, discussed this topic with two phenomenal queens, Wellness Coach Mrs. Dimple Kabadi-Berger and Senior Biostatistician and African print designer, Mrs. Maua Mocha Alleyne. If you think Part 1 was a movie well then you need to see Part 2 of this podcast. The ladies did not hold back, and neither did I. We had one divorcee on the panel and the others were married. Take a look at what they had to say about walking down the aisle again. It was juicy.

In a recent survey, we discovered that the majority of married women we interviewed, disclosed that they have no desire to remarry. Needless to say we were shocked. It appears that these wives believe that if for whatever reason they can no longer be with their present husbands, they are open to companionship, but not another marriage.

Many of us were raised to think that marriage is the ultimate status for a woman. we were also taught to associate the word "divorce" with failure. And while we do not advocate that divorce is the solution for any problem you encounter with your legal partner, it should not be categorized as a failure. Divorce should in fact be seen as an alternate solution to a marriage is no longer functional. The truth is, both marriage and divorce can have unhealthy consequences for children depending on the state of the relationships between the two adults.

"Your Money Language - Pt 1" We all have a money language. However, most of us are not aware of our money language, or where it originated.Many of us felt that we will learn how to manage our money at university, but we all know that did not happen. Many people graduate with enormous debt. The truth is, our money habit is connected to our upbringing , in most cases. That language can change once you become more aware of your money habits, its origins and make a concerted effort to find professional help to develop better financial habits. In our recent podcast, we discovered that people save for different reasons. Some people save out of the fear of not having. which is why in some countries around the world, it is referred to as the "rainy day fund". I grew up in a culture where the term "rainy day " is associated with scarcity and lack. In modern times, many affluent people consider rain to be a positive thing for their bank account. We also hear the term, "make it rain" which usually refers to an outpouring of money. Don't get me wrong, saving is a great habit, once you use your savings as a tool to create more wealth. However, for those of you who are saving as a result of fear, that may not be such a good financial habit or mindset. Do not allow your money to hold you captive. Many years ago, I discovered that my financial results had strong ties to the scarcity mindset that was handed down to me from my ancestors. In today’s podcast, we discussed the topic, “Raising Children Without Biases.” Is this really possible though? I like to think that I am raising my children without biases but then a huge part of my parenting involves telling them how to dress, where to socialize and more importantly how to choose their friends in order to stay out of trouble etc. As a result, when choices are involved, biases are present. Perhaps, what I am really doing as a parent is raising my children with biases , without malicious intent. Maybe..I don’t have all the answers and I am not an expert at this topic. For this reason, I called up some very qualified queens, who also happen to be amazing parents.

Biases are handed down from generation to generation. We are all raised with biases.Biases are not necessary a bad thing. It can be very effective in maintaining great morals and attaining success. However, we are not born biased. Biases that result in prejudice and discrimination are also taught by parents or relatives. This can cause tremendous pain and emotional trauma for others. Whitney Marshall is an entertainment lawyer by day and a dating coach by night. She is the founder of Yes to 50, a dating accountability group she started in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. As the leader of Yes to 50 she has established the Shameless Dating brand where she encourages women to get in touch with who they are, accept their flaws and relationship needs, and put themselves out there so they can find their perfect partners. She is the daughter of Jamaicans from St. Elizabeth and Kingston and enjoys spending time reading psychology and dating books.

Mrs Sanjoni Sethi

Sanjoni Sethi is a psychologist and mental health scholar. She has completed her Master’s Programme in Clinical Psychology (M.Sc Clinical Psychology) from Christ College, Bengaluru & Bachelors in Psychology Hons from Delhi University. Currently, she is an M.Phil Scholar studying Clinical Psychology. She has worked under a prestigious global banner of Amity. She was employed at Amity International School – Gurgaon as a School Counsellor. Sanjoni shows great interest in research in the area of mental health. She has worked with underprivileged children on topics of emotions and societal influence, and with elderly population on depression. Her research work is published in eminent journals from USA, and UGC approved publishers. She is the recipient of IJRULA award winner as the Best Revolutionist 2018 for her paper “Societal Influence on Emotional Competence”. She is also a certified First-Aid Trainer from “East West Rescue Organization” and has keen interest in helping the society. Sanjoni is also a trained and qualified Kathak Dancer (B.A. Kathak) from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. She is also deeply involved in writing for her mental health blog known as ‘TheMadnessforReal’ and painting.

Dr. Ayanna Eastman

Dr. Ayanna Alleyne -Eastman is a native of Trinidad and Tobago, who believes in the importance of pursuing your dreams. Her career path has included communication and public relations experiences with state and international agencies, such as the United Nations. At present, she is an Assistant Professor, of Communication and single mother of a tenacious 14 year old girl. An avid writer, she shares her thoughts and musings on motherhood, singleness, dating and more on her blog, Successful Mom. In her spare time, she hikes mountain trails and plans events. And most of all, she wants us to know, she is a woman of God.

Ms Vanessa Anderson

Vanessa Anderson is a Senior Cloud Solution at Microsoft and has 23 years of experience working in Information Technology. Besides working on Cloud digital transformation projects, Vanessa is a lifelong learner, she is passionate about the empowerment of the community, and spends her spare time mentoring and inspiring others and for fun she enjoys travelling the globe.

Ms Ariel Paredes

Ariel Paredes is a Writer, Actor, and Stand-up comedian. She has developed years of experience with published work covering press junkets, travel pieces, and arts & entertainment. Also having performed all over Los Angeles at the famed Laugh Factory and The Comedy Store, she reflected herself in comedy by creating her own culturally diverse female driven show called “It’s Not me, It’s Definitely you”. A graduate of Boston College, she used her business skill set from working at HBO, to take that to the next level in her own personal endeavors creating new and exciting content.

Today, the ladies and I got together to discuss the benefits of gratitude during a time like this. Speaking for myself, it has not been easy. However, my saving grace has been an attitude of gratitude. I am so grateful for this circle of women that I have chosen to surround myself with during this time. I am also grateful that our wellness expert, Mrs. Dimple Kabadi- Berger was present for this discussion.
