Today we are going to talk to Shanisty Ireland about RSV and bringing awareness to our audience and to share Adam’s story. Shanisty is a mom from Columbus, a mother of 4 beautiful children, and a blogger called A Place for the Modern Mom.
Shanisty had no idea what RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) was until they almost lost their son to the virus at just 6 weeks old. Adam was born full-term weighing 9 lbs. 8 oz. in November of 2016.
Like many families, Adam had two older siblings who were in preschool and bringing home every cough and sniffle. Adam was diagnosed with RSV at 6 weeks old. He tested positive at the doctor’s office. “Mrs. Ireland, your son has RSV, take him home and watch him.” she stared at the tech, in confusion because she had never heard of RSV before.
After a long 24 hours at home, Adam wasn’t improving so she rushed him to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where they spent 5 terrifying days watched her baby fight for his life.
