Road to Halloween continues as Ghost Boat Adventures heads deep into British Columbia’s legendary Othello Tunnels.
These spectacular tunnels and canyons near Hope, BC have a history almost as dramatic as the landscape itself — and movie fans may recognize the area as a filming location for First Blood, starring Sylvester Stallone as Rambo.
Jordan “Gwa Gwa” Reid and Karen explore the tunnels and surrounding wilderness while looking at the legends, strange stories and very real dangers of the area. Cougars can stalk people without ever being seen, and we discuss what to watch for and what to do if you encounter one. Bears, falling rocks and sudden flash floods are among the other real wilderness hazards surrounding the adventure.
Then there are the other inhabitants: Sasquatch, ghosts, goblins, vampires and zombie dogs.
Karen even channels Gandalf for her own “You shall not pass!” moment as we compare goblins with the Orcs of The Lord of the Rings.
And among all the monsters and mayhem, Jordan’s “ancient eagle eyes” somehow spot one of the tiniest creatures imaginable — a real live shrew hiding beneath the leaves, small enough to disappear underneath a single leaf.
From Hollywood history and Sasquatch country to cougars, wilderness hazards, movie references and Halloween fun, we left no stone unturned at the Othello Tunnels.
Some legends are told. Others are lived.

What is it really like to drive the Coquihalla Highway in the middle of a BC winter storm? And what happens when the story moves from dangerous roads to strange lights in the sky?
Captain Jordan, also known as Gwa Gwa — “Come Out From Underneath” — a Heiltsuk elder, shaman and Master Mariner, shares his firsthand experiences driving tour buses through British Columbia's notorious Coquihalla Highway — the road made famous by the television series Highway Thru Hell.
From Hope to Merritt and on toward Sun Peaks, Jordan remembers whiteouts, brutal mountain weather, steep descents, snowplows, wrecks, breakdowns and the people who kept this dangerous highway moving.
But there is another side to this journey.
The region has long fascinated Jordan because of stories involving UFOs, unexplained lights and alien encounters. During one of his trips to Sun Peaks, Jordan experienced an encounter of his own — an experience he describes as an alien abduction.
This is not just a story about a highway. It's a firsthand journey through extreme winter driving, unexplained encounters and memories from a lifetime spent travelling British Columbia.
Some legends are told. Others are lived.

They laughed when I said I’d seen a Sasquatch—until it stepped out of the trees and my sister screamed.
Filmed on location in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, Captain Jordan Reid, a Heiltsuk First Nations storyteller and Master Mariner, recounts three personal encounters from his childhood around Bella Bella.
Hear about a close-range Sasquatch sighting witnessed by others, a frightening scream and shaking tree that sent the family scrambling for their boat, and a midnight visitor followed by a giant footprint beside an unexpected dollar.
These are personal recollections and interpretations, not claims of verified Bigfoot evidence.
Our apologies for the overhead aircraft noise. We understand there may have been an incident nearby, but we cannot confirm what happened.

What if the Star People did not simply visit—but placed our ancestors at specific locations throughout Heiltsuk territory?
In the first episode of Wild Wake Wednesday, Captain Jordan responds to our viewer survey with three connected mysteries: the Heiltsuk Star People origin account, Raven and the mysterious giant clamshell, and the haunted side of the Museum of Anthropology.
Could the giant clamshell described in the Raven story represent something more mysterious? Could ancient accounts, UFO origins and paranormal activity be connected?
These are traditional accounts, personal experiences and interpretations shared respectfully by a Heiltsuk First Nations Elder.

When I was young, my mother gave me one warning I never forgot:
BE HOME BEFORE DARK.
She told me that after sunset, mysterious Forest Fairies came out — supernatural beings that, according to her, rode on the backs of wolves.
But what she told me could happen if they found someone outside after dark was considerably more frightening than the version I'm sharing today.
Now that I am an Elder myself, I believe these stories and warnings are worth preserving and passing on.

An elderly Heiltsuk couple, rumoured to be witches, needed someone to row them to a sacred burial island—but everyone refused except my father. What happened after they made an offering to the ancestors left Dad believing his act of kindness had brought him a mysterious blessing of good fortune.
Jordan Reid shares this true family story of Heiltsuk elders, witchcraft, ancestral beliefs, sacred places and Indigenous paranormal tradition—and the warning his father carried with him for the rest of his life.
🎃 Ghost Boat Adventures begins the Road to Halloween, bringing you strange encounters, supernatural warnings and stories passed down through generations. Were they witches, ancestors... or something else?
When I was a young boy growing up in Bella Bella on the Central Coast of British Columbia, my mother gave me a warning I never forgot.
She warned me about an enormous flying creature — something much larger than an eagle — that could come from the sky and carry a person away.
Now, as a Heiltsuk Elder, I look back at that warning and ask a question I could never have imagined asking as a child:
What exactly were our Elders describing?
Was it simply an exceptionally large bird? A creature behind stories sometimes associated with the Thunderbird? Or could descriptions of giant flying cryptids have some connection to prehistoric flying reptiles such as pterosaurs and the commonly used term “pterodactyl”?
This episode is my personal account of the warning passed down to me and the questions it raises today. I am not claiming that an extinct animal survives today. I am preserving the story as it was told to me and allowing listeners to decide what they think it meant.

In Episode 3 of Warnings Our Elders Gave Us, I share a warning passed down to me by my Heiltsuk aunt, one she believed could protect our family.
She warned me never to leave personal things behind: strands of hair, cigarette butts, or anything closely connected to you. She believed there were people who practiced dark magic and could use these items to work harmful spells against others.
She also warned me to keep my doors locked and to be careful who I trusted.
Do I know whether these things were true? No. I can only share what my aunt believed and the warnings she cared enough to pass down to me.
Whether you see her warning as a spiritual teaching, an old belief, or simply a lesson about protecting yourself and being careful who you trust, it stayed with me throughout my life.
These are the stories and teachings our elders left with us. By sharing them, we help preserve them for future generations.

In the forests of the Pacific Northwest, my father gave me a warning I never forgot: if you encounter strange beings in the woods, do not follow them.
In this episode of Ghost Boat Adventures, I share a First Nations story passed down through my family about mysterious beings seen deep in the forest. Were they spirits, something physical, visitors from somewhere else, or something we still do not understand?
My father was a commercial fisherman and a man who knew the land and waters. His warning was simple. These beings could call to you, draw you farther into the forest, and if you followed them, you might never find your way back.
I cannot tell you exactly what they were. I can only tell you what my father told me and why I have remembered his warning all these years.
Ghost Boat Adventures explores First Nations stories, Indigenous knowledge, unexplained encounters, Sasquatch, strange phenomena, and experiences that do not always have easy answers.
What do you think these beings were? Aliens, spirits, something physical, or something else entirely?
