This episode we will be discussing ADHD and how it effects our lives. This is the first of the new style of episode for Aspiring Abolitionist. Listen in as I detail how censorship in music limits freedom of expression and free speech. I will work through a variety of examples mostly pulling from current examples like YNW Melly and Tay K. The end of the episode features an interview from the Today Show where Ice Cube details his time in NWA and his thoughts on censorship. Happy listening :)
I'm back and better! This is the first episode of Season 2 and we have to start with a bang. Listen as I go through a brief history of cannabis in America and speak with Adesuwa Joseph -- an entrepreneur in Charlotte who's business centers around cannabis. Happy Listening :)
Listen in as I discuss my favorite piece of legislation -- can you guess what it is?
Listen in as I talk about the statute that ties organized crime, street gangs and drug cartels together. Infamously tagged as the RICO, this statute introduces a way to tie racketeering activity to who engages in the activity and who orders it! This was a great topic to explore and way for me to decide what I believe safety truly is -- I encourage you all to evaluate the idea of community safety and what that would look like for ALL the members of your community.
Listen in as I delve into what the heck is going on in Portland. Too often, we displace racism as a uniquely Southern issue while racism is all around us -- Portland is a glaring example of that. Happy Listening!
Listen in as I highlight the rollback of the 2012 Equal Access Rule of the Office of Housing and Urban Development. Ben Carson leads HUD -- with his expertise residing from a childhood in low income housing. Secretary Carson made headlines when he announced plans to rollback the 2016 guidance administered during the Obama Administration.
Also, I got the opportunity to speak with the boys from Dominate the Decade - another great podcast out on all streaming platforms! Check out their podcast and social media pages @dominate_decade on Twitter and @dominatethedecade on Instagram! Happy listening!
This week, I am reflecting on our asylum systems in the United States. Listen in as I dissect the Refugee Act of 1980 and the current status of asylum in the United States.
Listen in as I explain why people are calling for the removal of confederate monuments across the United States. This fight is not new. I analyze the Heritage Act, the role of confederate monuments in preserving revisionist history, and an interview with Repeal the Heritage Act's Jazmyne McCrae and Helen Knight. Happy listening!
