We can't believe our season has already come to an end which is why to close us out we went big and chose to discuss HBOs House of the Dragon!
Now it's second season, we express our appreciation of the talented ensemble cast; the hard work and high production value that clearly goes into the show; the storytelling related to power, politics, and patriarchy; and most importantly -the presence of dragons!
We also discuss the complex dynamics between Rhaenyra and Alicent, Alicent and her children, and Rhaenyra and Daemon - but you really want to listen to hear what we think of Sir Criston Cole of the hair-brained schemes, Corlys 'deadbeat' Valaryon, and the Grand Maester who just wants to do his job.
We hope you enjoy! Thanks for Listening! and see you next year!

This week we switch it up for you and discuss two of last years Oscar Nominated feature films Past Lives and American Fiction. Written and directed by Celine Song, Past Lives tells the story of Nora (Greta Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo) who contemplate the experience and nature of their bond when they reunite 24 years after their separation in South Korea when Nora's family immigrated to the US.
American Fiction, a satirical comedy-drama based on the novel Erasure by Percival Everett, was written and directed by Cord Jefferson and tells the story of frustrated writer and professor Thelonius "Monk" Ellison (Jeffery Wright) as he navigates the institutional expectations of the publishing and film industry when it comes to 'Black' books and the stereotypes therein. He returns home where he reconnects with family at the same time as a manuscript he jokingly submitted containing all the stereotypes he abhors suddenly gains popularity with publisher to hilarious effect.
We discuss each films reflections on language, family, identity, immigration, stereotypes, and the importance of holding space for relationships that represent parts of us we think we've left behind. We could not let a season a go without a dose of a reality tv dating show so we’re back with a episode discussing the Netflix hit, The Ultimatum South Africa. There’s so much to unpack so had to make sure our reality tv correspondent, Dona, joined us as we got into it. We cover our thoughts on the flavour & authenticity the South African cast brought to a show that was getting tired & all the dynamics at play in this twisted couples’ swap. We also ask some burning questions like… Why did Khanya bring that man on here when she clearly didn’t like him? How long had Ruth & Isaac really been together? At what point did Courtney & Aiden realize they’d an error coming & when will Nolla stop lying? That and so much more. We hope you enjoy!
