What does the Parable of the Ten Virgins mean, and how can you know whether you're truly ready for the return of Jesus Christ? In Matthew 25:1–13, Pastor Casey Lewis continues through the Gospel of Matthew by examining Jesus' parable of the five wise and five foolish virgins. All ten were waiting for the bridegroom, but only five were prepared when he arrived. The others found themselves outside the wedding feast, hearing the sobering words, "I do not know you." Building upon Jesus' warnings in Matthew 24, this sermon examines the difference between professing faith in Christ and genuinely belonging to Him. Pastor Casey explains the distinction between the visible and invisible church, reminding us that outward religious participation does not necessarily demonstrate genuine salvation. The message also addresses the assurance of salvation. We are saved entirely by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our works. Yet genuine salvation produces a changed heart, a love for Christ, and a growing desire to obey His commands. How, then, should Christians examine themselves and find biblical assurance that they belong to Him? Pastor Casey also identifies three themes that connect the Parable of the Ten Virgins, the Parable of the Talents, and Jesus' teaching about the Final Judgment: Christ's return will be sudden. His return will bring eternal division. Some will be shocked by His judgment. The central warning is clear: the return of Christ will come at an unknown day and hour. Do not mistake outward appearances for genuine faith. Examine your heart, trust in Christ alone for salvation, and live ready for His return.
