In the last episode I talked about the lead up to my first OBE, that first time was so wonderful, I was full of joy at finding myself floating above my physical body, the proof for me that we exist beyond the body. However, at that point I didn’t know if it was just a one off, I had to get more information so I went to my local bookshop and to my surprise I found a copy of William Buhlman’s ‘Adventures Beyond the Body’, it was in Italian obviously as I live in Italy, I do prefer to read in English but I was so happy to find this book. Now we can find books easily via internet but this was even before Amazon launched in Italy, god that makes me sound old lol. I still have this book and the pencil written translation I wrote in the book at the end where there is a meditation. I discovered through the book that William came to Italy regularly to give workshops, I found out when the next one was and signed up. I ended up going to 3, they were a lot of fun and it was great to meet people who were also interested in OBEs.

After I found William’s book, I knew I had to really focus on OBEs in order to make it a part of me, so I found as much info as I could on the subject, I would repeat the affirmation ‘Now I’m out-of-body’ as often as I could, especially before sleeping, I suppose I was secretly a little obsessed with it lol. As I walked around my town and I came to a high point I would imagine myself flying over the town. To tell the truth I think the main thing that contributed to my continuing OBEs was the longing feeling I spoke about in the first episode in this series, plus the joy of flight. There are no words to describe the feeling of flight, at least for me, it is as if it connects you to your true essence of joy. Of course there are many things to experience beyond the body and a lot of work to do in the astral realms but it is that joy of flight that pulls me. Sometimes after the heaviness of life in the physical you really need that release, maybe it acts as a kind of energy detox. I had a flying OBE recently and it made me feel so good in the morning.

I had woken up early, it was cold so I put the heating on and went back to sleep, it got sooo cosy in bed I must have been particularly relaxed. The OBE goes like this…..

I wake up once more thinking I am awake again and think I might as well get up. I get out of bed and walk onto the landing, however I notice one of the bedroom doors is shut and I know that I didn’t shut it and there isn’t anyone else in the house. At this point I realise that I was out-of-body, wow it feeels so good as it has been a while, I am so happy. I say to my higher self ‘take me where I need to be’, I immediately find myself flying among the clouds in a blue sky. I am going so fast it feels wonderful, the flight seems to take a long time and I feel I might wake up before I can be of service to someone. I start to feel a little bit bad at enjoying myself so much when I know there are many people who need help so I say to my higher self ‘I want to help someone.

However, thinking about it I think my higher self gifted me the flight as I know you don’t really need to fly to get anywhere in the astral you just have to use your mind and things are instantaneous. Back to the OBE…

When I land I am with a young man who is a guide or a representation of my higher self. We are in a town, and standing at the entrance to a sort of cavern where there is a group of people they are party of a religious group, best to not say which one as I don’t want to end up in trouble, you can’t say anything these days without someone getting offended somewhere lol. They are sitting around a table and doing some sort of research, there are so some other people around the table which seemed like students. The young man whispered something in my ear I can’t remember the exact words but the underlying meaning is that they are doing something sinister, although it is covered up by their research activities. My guide says they even have something written down about my mum. The young man tells me I have to remember a phrase but I don’t understand what he says, I said it needs to be short if I am going to remember it when I wake up, so he says something like Host Monster, I say I think I wil remember that, even Social Monster would be good, I would remember that. I leave the entrance of the cavern to have a look around the town. It is very family orientated everyone has to be a member of a family, there are no loners, or people thinking for themselves. Although everyone is very nice it seems a bit like a cult and it feels that there is something not quite right. I want to walk down a particular road and a lady asks me if I am looking for a hotel, I say no I’m not I got the impression that she would have been quite willing to host me. I don’t really remember any more after that except slowly waking up this time in the physical reality.

I have an idea what the OBE was about, maybe some kind of ‘astral cult’ but this isn’t the time to go into it, it was great to be out again and the flight in the sky shooting through clouds was amazing.

Anyway back to my earnest attempt to keep the astral adventures going….I would count my OBEs but when I passed 1000 I realised that they were now a part of me and would continue. I wasn’t a natural flier at first it took me a few OBEs to get the hang of it and actually manage to get through the window. Sometimes I would wake up in my body and not know if I was awake in the physical or if I was in the mind awake/body asleep state. Similar to the OBE I just described when I only realised I was out-of-body because I knew I hadn’t shut the bedroom door. In my early days I remember testing to see if I was OBE by trying to put my head through a wall then laughing so much when I heard my husband getting up (I was sleeping in a different room) and I thought to myself what if I’m not OBE and my husband comes in and sees me banging my head against the wall. It turns out my head went through lol.

Often I don’t get any obvious signs that I’m out-of-body, my exits are usually very quiet.

During these early days I was reading everything I could on OBEs, I found a copy of Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce, I had also found some material by Bob Peterson called 14 OBE Letters on an old site called spiritweb.org, you can still find it via the way back machine. It was quite an intense time for me, mother and English teacher during the day, flying around the astral at night or at least trying too. In the end I found a forum as well, I loved those old forum style discussion sites, the first one I joined was William Buhlman’s discussion board it was very simple, wow how things have changed and how communication has exploded. William’s discussion board evolved and became Project Radiant Light ran by Rick. Good times. We shared all our adventures, tips, techniques etc plus a lot more.

Now I realise in those early days I was programming myself to have OBEs, for better or worse we are very programmable and we can use this to our advantage when learning to travel beyond the body.

Astral Beginnings n.2

I am starting a series of podcast episodes where I am going to describe in detail what I was doing that led me to have my first out-of-body experience, and how I managed to keep them going, leading me into an incredible adventure. I haven’t been having them all my life so it wasn’t something that came naturally to me, I had to work at it. I have always been a dreamer though, I have always loved dreams, I had the occasional lucid dream but I wouldn’t have called myself a regular lucid dreamer.

It all started with one question ‘Who am I?’ I have repeated this on numerous occasions and will no doubt continue to do so. It is a question that is fundamental in discovering who we truly are, in order to discover you have to ask the question, if you don’t ask the question you won’t get an answer and you have to really want to know the answer, so badly that it hurts, as they say.

There is a longing in most of us for something more and we are not going to find that something more outside of us, only inside, with all of our distractions silenced. In one of my OBEs years ago I was guided towards the Lord’s Prayer, at the time I thought this was a bit strange. We had to repeat the prayer at school every morning to the point that we just knew it off by heart without even paying attention to the words.I have never been religious and the prayer to be honest didn’t really mean a lot to me. Anyway, somehow after following the advice of the OBE to look up the Lord’s prayer, I found myself listening to a YouTube video where the prayer was being sung in its original language of Aramaic. The version I was listening to was amazing and really moved me, I had to find out the true meaning of those words and I soon realised that the version I had been taught was in fact only one possible translation. So one day there I was with the book ‘Prayers of the Cosmos’ by Neil Douglas-Klotz in hand. I’m not going to go into the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer now except to say that there is one line that refers exactly to what I was saying earlier about the distractions in our Iives, the line we used to repeat as lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, can also be translated in many ways e.g. Don’t let surface things delude us, but free us from what holds us back….or deceived neither by the outer nor the inner – free us to walk your path.

We will never find true satisfaction outside of ourselves, because we always carry that desire to connect to who we truly are, we will always feel that something is missing and that something that is missing is the answer to the question ‘Who am I?’

When I asked this question I knew I would never find out the answer from someone else, it was something I had to discover for myself. So when should I start? I decided to start with my dreams as, if I was going to go deeper inside, that seemed the next logical step. So I started writing down my dreams in the hope that I would understand more about myself. Around this time every so often I would have a lucid dream and in these lucid dreams I would meet a former well-loved geography teacher from secondary school. I have talked about these meetings before, they say ask for help and a guide will appear, well this was certainly true in my case, I suspect my geography teacher was a representation of my higher self. When I had a lucid dream with my geography teacher there would always be wise words and things to learn, I wanted more of these dreams so I focused on lucid dreaming techniques, one of which was looking at my hands during the day every so often and asking myself ‘Am I dreaming?’ The idea is that if you do it often enough during the day you will then do it in a dream and the answer will be ‘yes I am dreaming’ and you will become lucid. It worked many times, the first time I had success with this technique I was so shocked with how suddenly focused I was, how suddenly I became lucid that I woke up lol. I wasn’t intending to have an out-of-body experience and I didn’t even know at the time that you can go into the astral from a lucid dream.

Another thing I was doing at the time was meditation, I had never really meditated before, I generally used guided meditations, basically to help me relax, they weren’t geared towards having lucid dreams or OBEs. One was called Power Nap and it was basically a run through the chairs, the other I used to listen to was a CD called Dreamers Journey. I would also burn incense. I dedicated a room to this meditation/relaxation process.

It also happened that my husband snored a lot and so I found myself having to change rooms in the middle of the night in order to get some sleep, so I would often end up sleeping have the night in the room, without knowing it I was doing the wake up and go back to sleep OBE technique, when I went to sleep in my meditation room I would intend to have a lucid dream, I would also try the keeping the mind awake while the body goes to sleep as I had read somewhere that you could go into a lucid dream straight away doing this. I had never managed to keep my mind awake while my body fell asleep, until one night……….

I had done the usual routine of getting woken up by snoring, going to the loo then going to sleep in a different room. I was trying to keep my mind awake while my body went to sleep. I imagined myself going down, down and down, I tried to feel what that would be like, like the feeling of going down in a lift, forever sinking down. After a while, not sure how long, I started to feel as if my body was electric, it was quite pleasant, as if I was all fizzy, and then I simply floated out of my body, it was amazing, I felt so full of joy as I now had proof, at least personal proof that we exist outside our physical body. I was aware that I was having an out-of-body experience. I had read a little bit about them so I wasn’t freaked out or panicking that I had died. I didn’t leave the room but I think I may have returned to my body and exited again maybe 3 times, I can’t really remember I’m sure I have it written down somewhere. The thing that stood out for me was the joy I was feeling. When I woke up in the morning I was over the moon, not that I could tell anyone, they would’ve thought I was crazy but wow, what an experience.

It took a good few months of trying to lucid dream until I had this experience, I was constant in my practice and didn’t get despondent if I wasn’t successful, if not lucid there was always a dream or 2 to write down and reflect on. The OBE was a complete surprise but worth all the effort I had put in.

Having had one OBE obviously I didn’t want them to stop, I thought it might be a one-off and I so didn’t want it to be. I wanted to discover more to go deeper, it was all so exciting.

So I decided I had to up my game, I needed more information on OBEs, I needed to know more so I could keep them going, but that will be for th next episode.

Remember if you have any questions you can find me at https://patreon.com/aliwings, membership is free, this week I added the audio of chapter 6 of my book ‘Astral Dancer’. I’d love to see you there.

Thanks for listening, bye for now!

We will never find true satisfaction outside of ourselves, because we always carry that desire to connect to who we truly are, we will always feel that something is missing and that something that is missing is the answer to the question ‘Who am I?’ When I asked this question I knew I would never find out the answer from someone else, it was something I had to discover for myself. Astral Beginnings n.1

I came across this yesterday which I had written in one of my notebooks, I had forgotten about it, it is a nice way to start the day, with quiet reflection.

Look to this day:

For it is life, the very life of life.

In its brief course

Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.

The bliss of growth,

The glory of action,

The splendour of achievement

Are but experiences of time.

For yesterday is but a dream

And tomorrow is only a vision;

And today well-lived, makes

Yesterday a dream of happiness

And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well therefore to this day;

Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn!

Kalidasa

It got me thinking about time and how time in the astral world doesn’t really exist, our concept of time exists in our minds as we are generally still conditioned by it while out of body depending of course on our state of consciousness. I have also experienced a state of consciousness where all was present but generally I am still influenced by a sense of passing of time. It is difficult to experience events in the astral and not attach our concept of time however when you re-enter the body you can find that it seemed you were out for a lot more time than has passed in the physical. In the end all is bubbling around in the big NOW, it is all NOW, sometimes I try to get my mind to simply tune in to the present moment and try to perceive Iife as events all happening in the present moment, this moment is after all all that we know. I usually get myself tied in knots though sometimes I manage to stay in the moment, not for long though, and there we go again with the concept of time passing. I suppose this is how our reality is constructed, otherwise it just wouldn’t work.

Years ago, and I mean years before digital photos, I used to do photo montages with various photos and quotes based around a theme. I still have one up on my wall around the theme of time, time has always fascinated me, even more so after a few trips to the astral and I realised how bendy time really is, you can experience a whole life in the astral and still be back in time for breakfast the following morning.

In the astral everything bends and flexes almost immediately depending on what you are thinking and feeling, what your intentions are, as above, so below, and so it is in the physical too though we are subjected to our perception of time and denser energy so all is a lot slower and heavier. What we think and feel still produces consequences though not immediately, which is a good thing considering what many of us have going on in our heads, constant uncontrolled chit chat.

The astral is a great place to practice mind control skills and vice versa, getting better at controlling what is in your mind in the physical will help in remaining calm and objective while out-of-body. I talk a lot about the importance of remaining focused and developing this skill. It can be a great ally in getting you out-of-body in the first place.

The ‘powers that be’ don’t want us focused, they want us distracted so we are more like sheep, no offense meant to sheep, and easier to control. I often find that when I leave my body there is a being somewhere along the line trying to distract me from my intention, which is usually trying to help someone lost in the lower astral realms. For whatever reason these beings may have they don’t want me to do it, however if I focus with clear intention they can’t stop me and they know it.

If you practice focusing during the day, if you do it often enough, it will be reflected in your dreams, I find that if I focus on something in a dream to the exclusion of all else in the end the dream dissolves and I find myself in the mind awake/body asleep state or directly in the astral. It is a great technique to use especially if you are busy or have children and don’t have time to practice a technique during the day, focusing you can do anywhere, focusing is simply being totally present in the present moment, actually you might even lose your keys less often lol.

Out-of-body experiences can complement our lives, they are a part of who we are, and can inspire and teach. Not just OBEs our dreams too, even our daydreams. Today just after my yoga class I was driving to the supermarket, I was thinking about all the emotions, all the feelings, all the thoughts, all the words which remain as energy around us, it appears that they just disappear into nothingness but they don’t this is why words are important, what we say and what we write. Words can do so much especially when impregnated with feeling. When I think of it all rolling around in this world and the astral it can all become a bit overwhelming, especially when you think of the lower astral planes and the desperation and sadness that unfortunately reside there. Anyway I did the shopping and dived in a bar for a coffee, as I’m sitting there reading a book, I start day dreaming…..

In my mind’s eye I see a white wave making its way around the Earth. It reaches into every corner, into every dark recess no place or being, is left untouched. It also pervades the astral realms and I see all the desperation and sadness dissolving, everyone suddenly feels so much lighter, freed from the chains of whatever emotions and thoughts were holding them back, freed from suffering and limitations. An incredible feeling of relief. People sort of look at each other and start laughing, as if waking up from a dream that they have been so involved in they have forgotten who they are. ‘Wow that was quite a roller coaster ride,’ someone says, ‘we really lost it that time, we were in so deep. How did that happen?’

Interesting day dream, maybe it was a premonition, who knows?
