On this episode special Guest Ms Chin Wong, the President of the Canberra Multicultural Community Forum and OPALS Solicitor Er-kai Wang discuss Elder Law in the ACT and some of the challenges that older people from cultural communities might face.

In this episode we speak to the DAVLS Lawyers and the Royal Commissions report on Defence and Veteran Suicide. 

DAVLS is a free national service that provides independent information and legal advice to support Australian Defence Force personnel and veterans, as well as their families, carers and supporters, to safely share their experiences with the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

They are independent and separate from the Royal Commission, the Department of Defence, and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

They can help clients understand their legal rights and options for sharing their experiences with the Royal Commission and connect their clients with other supports.

In this episode we sit down with Jenny Francis, special counsel at Legal Aid ACT and discuss the civil areas of practice at Legal Aid. Jenny touches on interesting aspects of tenancy and NDIS related matters. We discuss some of the other aspects of legal work as well such as advice, research, education, and reform. This episode gives young people an idea of what lawyers do and what legal work involves.

This episode dives deep into a critical aspect of legal services, the support staff. This episode will explore the daily life of the paralegals in the organization including exploring what the support staff are learning as they field calls. As the frontline staff they flag the importance of being trauma informed. A short introduction is made to the helpline space and the reception area which is available to welcome clients who visit legal aid.
