Too Tough a Task
If you could sum up Atacama Red in three words, what would they be?
Needed more time. This is a two and one half hour audio book, from a one hundred and nineteen page book. The author had to introduce characters, establish explanations for their actions, introduce a mystery with multiple bodies and include the "chase". There is an exotic location, a reasonably likeable protagonist. The work just wasn't long enough to accomplish all of the elements of a good mystery. Some of the motivations and actions by the characters seem to be just thrown out there and not reasonable.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Telegraphed. Which is what I meant that the work needed to be longer for that aspect to develop.
What about Dan Carrolls performance did you like?
Dan Carroll has a pleasant voice. Easily understood.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Please stand back from the geyser!
Any additional comments?
I appreciate the opportunity to listen to and review this work.
I would like to see the work lengthened and developed a bit more. It's on the right track!
A review copy was gifted to me at no charge. In return, I am happy to provide an honest review. Also at no charge.
Flat Story
Any additional comments?
I wasn't quite sure what to make of this story. At first, it was so dry I was wondering if this was a true crime book. But it's not, it's just a flat, dry narrative fiction. The narrator really didn't help. He had a choppy telling of this story and his voice for the female detective was... hard to get through. I think this book would have been far superior if it had had a better voice over artist. That said, the interesting part of the story (cult killers!) was never fleshed out and it felt like the author spent a lot of time on unnecessary scenes and rushed through intriguing ones. I wouldn't recommend this book to my friends.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
INTERESTING CONCEPT MYSTERY
I originally opted to listen to this audiobook because I like mysteries and my husband had worked in the Atacama desert prior to 1962 when we were wed. I did, however, find the narration too neutral and was not able to really get into the story. Am certain that there are many who would enjoy this book even though I was not very impressed with it.
I received this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher and am freely offering my honest and unbiased review.
Meh
This whole thing left me feeling very MEH. Way to rushed to really enjoy the story or the characters. It was also boring.
