A wonderful read
I've read most of this author's works, in particular The Washington McBride Series, and I have to say the writing and stories just get better and better.
Other reviewers have fleshed out the plot and the synopsis is concise, so I hesitate in putting in any potential spoilers. The book is too good not to allow readers their own suspenseful journey with no preconceptions.
I love Ms Mercer's books because she has an engaging style that is deliciously intimate with her readers. The two main female protagonists, Juliette and Fran are fine examples of strong characters who develop both in personality and in strength. Her easy way of telling a story is because she always manages to keep a great pace, which, in turn, keeps the readers totally involved.
This was a great story, darker than I expected and heartfelt in places. I could easily see this as a great TV series.
My favorite McBride book!
I just finished reading the last of the Washington McBride series, The Savage Surrogate. What a ride! It was the best one yet. Exciting, fun, and entertaining. As the story develops you are right in there with Mike and Juliette, trying to solve the mysteries. Oh, and of course, there is Lady dog leading the way. It is a heartfelt story of loyalty, love and world traveling adventure. Read The Savage Surrogate for an afternoon of enjoyment or better yet, read the entire Washington series for three times the fun.
Excellent!
A taunt read on a matter as current as the morning news feed. This story keeps you glued to the page as it hops across the globe. There is no let up as this fast paced story takes hold of you. Phew! Without giving away anything, I want the animal.
the Savage Surrogate
Once again Dorothy has hit upon a subject that is current and scary.
Dramatized it and made one hell of a good story and read.
When can I expect another McBride?

A captivating read, full of suspense
The Savage Surrogate caught me completely by surprise. Though the summary hints at suspense and mystery, I thought it was mainly a romantic novel. This is the first McBride book that Iâve read. Now I want to read the others. A dashing personality, suave and stylish, Dorothy Mercer has created a male character that women will find appealing.
The book holds your attention from the start and you are drawn into the murky underworld along with the protagonists, as they dig deeper to figure out what happened to Fran. The characters of Fran and Juliette have been given equal space and developed well. Both come out as strong, independent women. A captivating readâone I would recommend!
