great detective story

I always love a detective but particularly enjoyed the narrator bringing the characters to life for me.

A must 'read'.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. the characters were very real and you could relate to them. I found the parts of the story that were letters were chilling and really touched me. The narrator really made the characters come to life and I always knew which character was 'speaking'. There were points when I was listening to this walking the dog and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and I had to rush to get home. I think it is amazing that listening to a book could make me react like this. I will be listening to more books by this author in the future and more books by this narrator.

An enjoyable thriller

My second audio book and my first Gillian E Hamer book. I enjoyed it! The narrator tried really hard to encompass all the different dialects throughout. The story itself was interesting, as threaded through were the letters from the past written by a lonely child called Andy, which you knew were linked to the present, but weren't sure how exactly. When the thread unraveled towards the end, it was with a series of catastrophic events leading to the eventual shocking conclusion.

Yes. Have enjoyed Tim Dalgleish's narration, especially his Playing Macbeth - An Actors Journey, which he also wrote.

It had me on the edge of my seat a few times. It was very topical and you really understood the motivations behind the murders.

A polished narration by Tim Dalgleish. Id go so far as to say the perfect tone for the genre. Ive listened to a few audio books and I was surprised how influential the voice is as to whether one continues to listen with commitment.

A mystery for horse lovers

I read a lot of mysteries- and this one was not my favorite. I don't know much about horses, and my idea of "roughing it" is a hotel with no wi-fi, so this book was a bit outside my area of interest. I felt like the story started off very slowly with too many inconsequential details. It wasn't my favorite read but if you're really into horses and camping out this would be a great book for you.

Took a little while to get going, but entertaining

The Antique Who Expired.

If you could sum up Flanagan's Dolls in three words, what would they be?

Mystery, Puns, Clean.

Mystery--this is a good murder mystery. The ending is a surprise but it was foreshadowed. It is a product of good writing rather than gimmick.

Pun--the main character is a retired insurance claims investigator that now owns an antique shop with his wife. He is very fond of puns.

Clean--this was a refreshingly clean book which is sometimes hard to find in this genre.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This book is very well written. The suspense and pacing are just right. You experience the mystery along with the main character. No clues are held back. You have the same ones that he has. It is a classic mystery that breaks stereo-types.

Which scene was your favorite?

Hmmm...There are lots of good scenes in this book. Seeing how Josh reacts when Emily gives the antique doll to the sick little girl is both a touching and hilarious scene. Josh taking his dog to visit the rival antique dealer's store also makes for a memorable scene. The banter between Josh and Emily and Josh and the Sheriff Sam is humorous and entertaining. This is a fun, entertaining and suspenseful book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, this is a fun mystery. It does make you want to solve the crime. While it is funny, the overriding emotion is wanting to figure out 'who done it' and how. The narrator has a voice that is perfect for this book and does an excellent job narrating. Each character has an individual voice and the narrator switches seamlessly between them. He delivers the puns so that they are funny.

I received this book for free from the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is a great book and I would definitely listen to it again.

Absolutely Fantastic Mystery

This book was pure mystery fun. Adler weaves a tale that is endlessly entertaining to follow and very hard to predict. However, it was narrator Kevin Scollin who really brought this story to life. I fell in love with these characters because of how much personality/nuance/specificity that was in the voice acting. An absolutely flawless performance that kept me hooked until the last moment.

Frustrating and exciting at the same time

Still suffering recurring panic attacks following the murder of a close friend just months ago, psychotherapist and recovering alcoholic Letty Whittaker is struggling to bring her life back to normal. Her bff, Beth, disappears into the depths of a religious cult to assist another AA member, Reggie, in gaining information about Reggieâs daughter. Letty makes a conscious decision to also go undercover in the cult, initially to help Reggie, but then she gets caught up in the mystery of what else is going on in the cult. She discovers a community that is fragmenting, with a leader going off the deep end, and some kind, if misguided followers caught in the middle.

I struggled a little more with this book and enjoyed it slightly less than previous entries in the series. I wanted to grab Letty by the shoulders, shake her, and tell her, âGet your arse to a meeting, immediately book an appointment with your supervising therapist and CALL YOUR SPONSOR!â Even more than in book 3, Letty displays some poor judgment that made me question her viability as a therapist. I was also disturbed that she seemed to walk away from her AA support system so easily. And yes I know sheâs fictional, but I like the character so much, I wanted to protect her from her own stupidity. In her favor, she did visit a therapist to mentally prepare with dealing with cult life, and she did have Beth and Eli, her almost-boyfriend, to help her.

Despite my frustrations with Lettyâs actions, I still found the book gripping and highly readable. I missed the descriptions of the meetings, but it was interesting to see Letty and Beth, and Eli, out of their element. There was some edge of the seat excitement that kept me turning pages, and the ending, although abrupt, was very satisfying and left me wanting more. I will read more in this series.

Great Book

Donna White Glaser has a wicked sense of humor and uses it. You can read any of her books as stand alone but to get full enjoyment I suggest reading them in order. Letty is a therapist and a recovering alcoholic with PTSD. She is serious about helping others and fiercely loyal to her friends often to the detriment of her well-being. If I needed a friend to help me with a problem I would choose Letty.

Mostly a man's book.. NOT Finishing it..

And here's why: The "hero" is a cop who sits in a parking lot stalking his ex-girlfriend and her husband through binoculars. He even has a cell he built in his basement to keep her in. You gotta be freaking kidding me! She broke up with him and married someone else some time ago and now Pierce is in love with someone else. Really? It doesn't matter that he didn't kidnap her and he started seeing a psychiatrist. The fact is I read it and that's all I can think about now. That's the worst first part of a book I've ever read.

Ally just wrote about a book that someone was "ick," in on Goodreads and I can certainly agree with that word. This guy was really "ick."

Besides that the narrator sucked. His female voices sounded just like the males.

Excellent book!

Another great book by Remington Kane and another great performance by David Stifel! His narration was the reason I looked into this series. If you like murder mysteries, this is a good one! If you've read book 1 already you'll get to learn a bit more about Detective Pierce's character in this book.

The best one yet!

This was my third Amelia Moore book and by far my favorite! I am not sure exactly why that is. There were a lot of likable things about this book that I could connect to. I also felt like I knew Amelia and Rick very well by this time around, they are starting to feel like old friends. Even though each book is a new mystery and could all be read as stand-alones, they also all connect to each by the characters and their growing romance.

I think one thing I really liked about this one was that it took place in Mexico. I have never been before but it is a country I can relate to more than the others. I have had a lot of Spanish and Mexican friends and like Rick, I love Mexican food! Rick's love of food once again amused me.For him and me - the spicier the better! Bring it on. With all the talk and descriptions of the authentic Mexican food - it had my mouth watering.

A couple of little things I loved - there was a little side job Rick was working on, a "break-in" that was kind of cute and a nice added touch. I also loved the part about the old Chevy truck. A dream of my husband is to get an old truck (except it has to be a Ford!) and slowly, over time fix it up.

I also loved the part she added about the importance of hugging!

Job well done Linda! I hope I enjoy the next one just as much - The Mysterious Doll.

My thoughts on the reader of the audio version - This is the same reader as for the others I have read. And again - I am not in love with her. I don't hate her, just don't love her. I didn't really care for some of the voices the tries to use and I thought her "baby-talk" that Amelia was suppose to do was terrible!

BUT... there was singing in this one and the reader actually sang the songs and she was a fantastic singer, very nice voice! So I will put that in her favor.

Another sweet Amelia Moore Detective series book

This is the third book in the Amelia Moore Detective series and as the previous book, it was again a sweet, clean and romantic mystery. I did not read book 1 but Ive now read books 2 and 3 and each stand on their own. It was fun to revisit Amelia and her partner Rick and see how their relationship has grown naturally. Im hoping that the relationship progresses even further in the next book!

This mystery in this book takes us to Mexico where Amelia and Rick are looking for the missing heir of a deceased uncle and philanthropist. Time is running out and mystery people are trying to stop them at all costs.

A unique story!

I have read the entire series of Volstead Manor and this last book did not disappoint. I like the way the author weaves the story around the history of the house. The story was well crafted, and it was not obvious who the villain was until the end. The series and this book have been a pleasure to read.

Another Great Read

The Volstead Manor series is one of the best I've read. When you need a good diversion from life, this is the series to go to. It's just edge of the seat enough to not scare you, although my heart rate increased a few times. The main character, Bailey, is a whole lot braver than I am. Believable characters pulled me right into the neighborhood. It was a great ride and sad to see that I finished all three. One of those story lines that you miss when you're done reading it. Great writing and a really fun ride!

Really liked the fact these series kept you wondering and was a little harder to figure out who did it. Great read.

Wonderful! Wish there were more! A Christian mystery is the greatest idea ever! Being able to feel God while enjoying one of my favorite pleasures is the greatest feeling.

A haunted cozy mystery that fell short

As a preface, I have read quite a few different "haunted cozy mysteries" with ghosts solving their deaths, such as Inspector Specter, If Walls Could Talk, & If You Got It Haunt It. It's a fun mix of two different genres and it can be really entertaining & fun when done right. With that being said..

The general plot of this is a good story, and I felt like it had great promise. However, it fell short because of how the story was composed. In the beginning of the book you alternate chapters going between Tori's world (the murder victim) in the afterlife & Madison's cop life as he works to solve her murder. This was ok in the beginning, but ended up making the book feel choppy. You never get to follow a consistent story, but rather two which halts on & off. At one point the book even rotates in a third story line from the perspective of Carmen. This switching of plot lines continues throughout & I was not a fan.

Finally, about halfway through the book some of these plot lines intersect, but it's done in such a convoluted way that it simply gets more confusing. I don't want to give away anything, but you have Madison & his partner who is now possessed by the soul of Tori trying to find answers. Too much.

This book really lost me when the ghosts went to earth and took over human "hosts" ... It was a little too sci-fi & a lot of story time was taken up describing how it works to take over a host body etc. It would have been better if they just stayed ghosts or got temporary human bodies of some sort. But I don't love the host idea. It's strange & hard to follow.

Overall the story line had great promise in the beginning but stumbled in presentation from a readers perspective. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.

EXCELLENT! Peg Herring is now my favorite author!

This book is the first in the Dead Detective series and it is fantastic. The characters are rich and interesting, the concept and story unpredictable like in Herring's other books.
