Something a little bit different this week: it's the first chapter of the nuclear war novel I'm writing.
I'll be releasing the subsequent chapters in podcast form over on my Patreon page where you get your own private podcast feed, so if you want to hear more, and get ad-free listening, visit www.patreon.com/atomichobo
I hope you like it.

We reach the end of the film. To whom can Jim pray? Is anyone out there, either in heaven, or in the lanes and streets of Sussex?
Vote for which nuclear war film you want me to cover next at www.patreon.com/atomichobo I've made the poll free to everyone, not just members.
And if you're a patron, our latest book club video is out. Next month's book is Red Alert by Peter Bryant.

The first book was THE CHRYSALIDS but the second one, to be discussed in July, is ALAS BABYLON which is set in 1950s Florida, and so I thought we'd have a podcast episode looking at the local newspaper archives for Florida in that era. If you think of Florida as sun-kissed and care-free, it was slightly different under the nuclear tensions of '59.

More on Truman and sole presidential authority, and why did Curtis LeMay say he would refuse to be 'fat, dumb and happy' if America got nuked?
As with last week's episode on Truman, I must acknowledge the brilliant new book by Alex Wellerstein called The Most Awful Responsibility.
