ATX AF

Latino band Como Las Movies stops by and shares how the band was formed and how they evolved their unique "Indie-Cumbia-Pop" sound.  With recent sets at Blues on The Green at Zilker Park here in ATX, as well as at Waterloo Records, more and more they are moving to the forefront of the ATX music scene, breaking "genre" and "ethnic" barriers along the way. These great guys give a slice of the Latino community and the Latino music scene, but also how Austin is a breeding ground for unique music like theirs.  We hope you enjoy our visit with these great guys as they share there story and how you can support musicians just like them.

In this episode we sit down with rapper Ivo The Terrible and his producer Ruler Why,  creators of our intro and outro song.  Listen in as Ivo shares his story as an East Austin Texas born and raised musician, what music has meant in his life and how it's brought him through hard times.  We raise a glass to his brother King Art, R.I.P. , and talk about how for many, music is a therapeutic outlet and way to express their dark places. Ruler Why shares his background, who he's worked with here and what music means to him.  There's a few great recommendations for ATX artists and movements as well.  If you love Austin and/or want to know more about the hip hop/rap scene here, this episode is for you.

We've got something new for you folks.  Once a week we're going out of the studio and sharing the  ATX lifestyle.  This first edition of Experience Austin we go to a "secret show" and experience music sets in what is now probably our favorite way and then share with you the game/ hobby of Kendama.   So let's go out and about Austin together.  And as always, thank you for joining us on our journey.

Jasmine Ellis is a stand-up comedian who relocated to Austin specifically because of the comedy scene.  In this episode she talks about what makes the Austin comedy crowds so special and what drew her here.  Listen in as she shares how we can support artists like her. She brought laughter to the studio and shows you why you should check her out soon!

Bio:

Jasmine Ellis's standup has been described as "energetic" and "joyfully neurotic," and she's pretty sure that was a compliment. After hosting local radio shows in college and interviewing comedians, she decided to try it herself in 2013 and hasn't looked back. Jasmine had performed in Las Vegas, New York, and LA, and earned spots on several festivals, including Moon Tower Comedy Festival, Bird City, Out of Bounds Fest in Austin, and Blue Whale Comedy In Tulsa.  She's performed in comedy clubs, colleges, and good old fashioned dive bars across her native Texas. In 2017 she landed a coveted spot on the 3rd season of PBS Documentary-series "Stand Up Empire" which profiles Austin's top up and coming comedians
