This year, more than a million Americans will be diagnosed with a kidney stone – a sometimes painful urological condition that can be caused by a number of factors, including diet, fluid intake, and some underlying medical conditions. Albany urologist and AUA Public Media Committee member I’m Dr. Charles Welliver talks with authors of two new kidney stone studies presented this year as part of the AUA’s Virtual Experience.

A new study presented during the AUA’s Virtual Experience explores the role that deep learning vision-based algorithms could play in the diagnosis and grading of prostate cancer. Guest host Dr. Sam Chang, chair of the AUA’s Public Media Committee, interviews the authors to learn more about this innovative abstract.

In this week’s Advocacy Update of the Inside Tract Podcast, we’re sharing the latest information about the AUA’s advocacy with federal lawmakers, and an update on new prostate cancer legislation in Maryland.

After weeks of restrictions, hospitals in Virginia are among the many across other states that are beginning to re-open their doors to non-emergency surgeries. We’re joined today by Virginia urologist Dr. Kurt McCammon to discuss what’s going on in his state and how his hospital has prepared to re-open for non-urgent procedures.

In late March, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey closed non-essential businesses across the state and suspended non-urgent and elective surgeries and procedures.

The state’s stay-at-home order expired on April 30, and has been replaced with a “safer at home” directive as Alabama begins to reopen. Today we’re speaking with Alabama urologist Dr. Lorie Fleck about her experience with the COVID-19 pandemic in Mobile County.
