According to The Economist Intelligence Unit's 2021 Global Liveability Index, living in Auckland, New Zealand is now the number one chosen place to live in the world.

And why not? The sun, the sails, the diversity.

But wait.

Before we all hunt for our passports and leave granny, Kansas and the wind behind, let's look at a few cold facts...

Living in Auckland New Zealand. How? Why?

If you are thinking of moving to New Zealand you have probably considered living in Auckland.

Auckland has job offers, world-ranked Universities; Fabulous beaches.

But are you viewing New Zealand's largest city through rose-tinted glasses?

What about the five-hour traffic jams in Auckland? And the much-discussed horrendous house prices?

In a recent podcast that Brian and I made we discussed, where is best to live, North Island or South Island? We discovered that medium house prices in Auckland sails in at a whopping $1.2 million NZD, compared to a cool $566,000 in Christchurch.

So what gives?

Talking to Ryan About Living in Auckland, New Zealand

This week, we were lucky enough to talk to Ryan.

Ryan moved to New Zealand from the USA with his school teacher wife and his two children in 2017.

He and his family have been living in Auckland for the past four years. They love it. They wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
