ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਰਤਨੀ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੰਤ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਰੇ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਸਰਵਰ ਮਹਿ ਹੰਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਕਿਆ ਬਗੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਛਪੜੀ ਨਾਇ ॥ ਕੀਚੜਿ ਡੂਬੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਚਰਨ ਧਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਚਾਖੇ ॥ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥੨॥ ਸਰਵਰ ਹੰਸਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਸਰਵਰ ਮਹਿ ਹੰਸੁ ਹੰਸ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ॥ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਆਦਰੁ ॥੩॥ ਸੁੰਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਇਕੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਸੇ ॥ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕੋਊ ਕੈਸੇ ॥ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਥ ਸਚੇ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਅਨਾਥ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਭੈ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰੇ ॥ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਗੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੫॥ ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਏ ॥ ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ॥ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥੬॥ ਕਹਤਉ ਪੜਤਉ ਸੁਣਤਉ ਏਕ ॥ ਧੀਰਜ ਧਰਮੁ ਧਰਣੀਧਰ ਟੇਕ ॥ ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਏ ॥੭॥ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਆਦਿ ਅਨੂਪੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥੮॥੧॥

SHALOK, FIFTH MEHL:

The Bani of the Guru’s Word is Ambrosial Nectar; its taste is sweet. The Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar. Meditate in remembrance on the Lord in your mind, body and heart; twenty-four hours a day, sing His Glorious Praises. Listen to these Teachings, O Sikhs of the Guru. This is the true purpose of life. This priceless human life will be made fruitful; embrace love for the Lord in your mind. Celestial peace and absolute bliss come when one meditates on God — suffering is dispelled. O Nanak, chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, peace wells up, and one obtains a place in the Court of the Lord. || 1 || FIFTH MEHL: O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; this is the Teaching imparted by the Perfect Guru. In the Lord’s Will, they practice meditation, austerity and self-discipline; in the Lord’s Will, they are released. In the Lord’s Will, they are made to wander in reincarnation; in the Lord’s Will, they are forgiven. In the Lord’s Will, pain and pleasure are experienced; in the Lord’s Will, actions are performed. In the Lord’s Will, clay is fashioned into form; in the Lord’s Will, His Light is infused into it. In the Lord’s Will, enjoyments are enjoyed; in the Lord’s Will, these enjoyments are denied. In the Lord’s Will, they are incarnated in heaven and hell; in the Lord’s Will, they fall to the ground. In the Lord’s Will, they are committed to His devotional worship and Praise; O Nanak, how rare are these! || 2 || PAUREE: Hearing, hearing of the glorious greatness of the True Name, I live. Even ignorant beasts and goblins can be saved, in an instant. Day and night, chant the Name, forever and ever. The most horrible thirst and hunger is satisfied through Your Name, O Lord. Disease, sorrow and pain run away, when the Name dwells within the mind. He alone attains his Beloved, who loves the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. The worlds and solar systems are saved by the Infinite Lord. Your glory is Yours alone, O my Beloved True Lord. || 12 ||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਜਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਦਾਲਦ ਦਲਘਾ ॥ ਭਉ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਘਾ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਰਘਾ ॥ ਮੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿ ਲੀਓ ਮੁਲਿ ਮਹਘਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਕੜਿ ਖੜੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਲਘਾ ॥ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ਹਥ ਫਲਘਾ ॥੨॥ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਜਨ ਕਿਰਮ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਲਘਾ ॥ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਚ ਪੂਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਮਘਾ ॥੩॥ ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਘਾ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਸਦ ਘੁਮਘਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

SOOHEE, FOURTH MEHL:

I chant and vibrate the Name of the Lord God, the Supreme Being, Har, Har; my poverty and problems have all been eradicated. The fear of birth and death has been erased, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad; serving the Unmoving, Unchanging Lord, I am absorbed in peace. || 1 || O my mind, vibrate the Name of the most Beloved, Darling Lord. I have dedicated my mind and body, and placed them in offering before the Guru; I have sold my head to the Guru, for a very dear price. || 1 || Pause || The kings and the rulers of men enjoy pleasures and delights, but without the Name of the Lord, death seizes and dispatches them all. The Righteous Judge of Dharma strikes them over the heads with his staff, and when the fruits of their actions come into their hands, then they regret and repent. || 2 || Save me, save me, Lord; I am Your humble servant, a mere worm. I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary, O Primal Lord, Cherisher and Nourisher. Please bless me with the Blessed Vision of the Saint’s Darshan, that I may find peace. O God, please fulfill the desires of Your humble servant. || 3 || You are the All-powerful, Great, Primal God, my Lord and Master. O Lord, please bless me with the gift of humility. Servant Nanak has found the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and is at peace; I am forever a sacrifice to the Naam. || 4 || 2 || ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੱਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਮਹਿੰਗੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਇਵਜ਼ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹਰੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਿੱਦ੍ਰ, ਦਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪਛਤਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ) ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਜੀਵ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਦਾਸ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ, ਇਸ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਦਾਸ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ।੩।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ।੪।੨।

The daily Hukamnama Sahib from Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar including English and Punjabi translation audio ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੪ ॥ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਮਧਿਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਪਟੋ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਪਟੇ ਖਪਹਿ ਖਪਾਹੀ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਆਇ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ਮਃ ੪ ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਨੂਆ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਖਪਹਿ ਖਪਾਹਿ ॥ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਦੁਖੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ ਸੇਈ ਬਿਚਖਣ ਜੰਤ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹਰਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥੨੬॥ ਅਰਥ: (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਅਕਲਿ ਹੋਛੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਦਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ; ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧੋਖਾ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ) ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਧੋਖਾ ਹੀ ਧੋਖਾ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਆਪ) ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਭਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦੇ) ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਹਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਦਾ; ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ-ਰੂਪ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ; ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਸਦਾ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਨ, ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਹਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲਏ।੨।ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਹਨ, ਭਗਤ ਹਨ ਉਹੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਹਨ।ਉਹੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ-ਰੂਪ ਭੋਜਨ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਹਰੀ (ਦੇ ਭਜਨ-ਰੂਪ) ਤੀਰਥ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨੬। SHALOK, FOURTH MEHL: He has spiritual ignorance within, and his intellect is dull and dim; he does not place his faith in the True Guru. He has deceit within himself, and so he sees deception in all others; through his deceptions, he is totally ruined. The True Guru’s Will does not enter into his consciousness, and so he wanders around, pursuing his own interests. If He grants His Grace, then Nanak is absorbed into the Word of the Shabad. || 1 || FOURTH MEHL: The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya; in the love of duality, their minds are unsteady. Night and day, they are burning; day and night, they are totally ruined by their egotism. Within them, is the total pitch darkness of greed, and no one even approaches them. They themselves are miserable, and they never find peace; they are born, only to die, and die again. O Nanak, the True Lord God forgives those, who focus their consciousness on the Guru’s feet. || 2 || PAUREE: That Saint, that devotee, is acceptable, who is loved by God. Those beings are wise, who meditate on the Lord. They eat the food, the treasure of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. They apply the dust of the feet of the Saints to their foreheads. ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥਾ ॥ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਉਤਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਰਿਨੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੂੜ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਥਾ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਥਾ ॥੨॥ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ ॥੩॥ ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨਹੀਨ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਚਾਲਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਾ ॥ ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਹ ਮਿਲੰਥਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) । (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ) ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਨਿ੍ਹਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਸਕੀਏ।੪।੧।

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

The Jewel of the Lord’s Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead. The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. || 1 || O my mind, vibrate the Lord’s Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved. The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord’s Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. || Pause || Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya. They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. || 2 || Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord. Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. || 3 || I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path? I am blind — O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. || 4 || 1

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) । (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ) ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਨਿ੍ਹਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਸਕੀਏ।੪।੧।

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

The Jewel of the Lord’s Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead. The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. || 1 || O my mind, vibrate the Lord’s Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved. The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord’s Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. || Pause || Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya. They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. || 2 || Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord. Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. || 3 || I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path? I am blind — O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. || 4 || 1 ||

ਬੈਰਾੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਨ ਗਵਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਾਤੂ ਪੰਚ ਆਪਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਝਗਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੩॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ (ਭੀ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ) ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ) ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਬੋਲਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ) ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ) ਖਿੱਚੋਤਾਣ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।੩।

BAIRAAREE, FOURTH MEHL:

The Lord’s humble servant sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord’s Name. Even if someone slanders the Lord’s humble servant, he does not give up his own goodness. || 1 || Pause || Whatever the Lord and Master does, He does by Himself; the Lord Himself does the deeds. The Lord and Master Himself imparts understanding; the Lord Himself inspires us to speak. || 1 || The Lord Himself directs the evolution of the world of the five elements; He Himself infuses the five senses into it. O servant Nanak, the Lord Himself unites us with the True Guru; He Himself resolves the conflicts. || 2 || 3 ||

SORAT’H, FIRST MEHL:

Those who serve the True Guru, O Beloved, their companions are saved as well. No one blocks their way, O Beloved, and the Lord’s Ambrosial Nectar is on their tongue. Without the Fear of God, they are so heavy that they sink and drown, O Beloved; but the Lord, casting His Glance of Grace, carries them across. || 1 || I ever praise You, O Beloved, I ever sing Your Praises. Without the boat, one is drowned in the sea of fear, O Beloved; how can I reach the distant shore? || 1 || Pause || I praise the Praiseworthy Lord, O Beloved; there is no other one to praise. Those who praise my God are good, O Beloved; they are imbued with the Word of the Shabad, and His Love. If I join them, O Beloved, I can churn the essence and so find joy. || 2 || The gateway to honor is Truth, O Beloved; it bears the Insignia of the True Name of the Lord. We come into the world, and we depart, with our destiny written and pre-ordained, O Beloved; realize the Command of the Commander. Without the Guru, this Command is not understood, O Beloved; True is the Power of the True Lord. || 3 || By His Command, we are conceived, O Beloved, and by His Command, we grow in the womb. By His Command, we are born, O Beloved, head-first, and upside-down. The Gurmukh is honored in the Court of the Lord, O Beloved; he departs after resolving his affairs. || 4 || By His Command, one comes into the world, O Beloved, and by His Will, he goes. By His Will, some are bound and gagged and driven away, O Beloved; the self-willed manmukhs suffer their punishment. By His Command, the Word of the Shabad, is realized, O Beloved, and one goes to the Court of the Lord robed in honor. || 5 || By His Command, some accounts are accounted for, O Beloved; by His Command, some suffer in egotism and duality. By His Command, one wanders in reincarnation, O Beloved; deceived by sins and demerits, he cries out in his suffering. If he comes to realize the Command of the Lord’s Will, O Beloved, then he is blessed with Truth and Honor. || 6 || It is so difficult to speak it, O Beloved; how can we speak, and hear, the True Name? I am a sacrifice to those who praise the Lord, O Beloved. I have obtained the Name, and I am satisfied, O Beloved; by His Grace, I am united in His Union. || 7 || If my body were to become the paper, O Beloved, and my mind the inkpot; and if my tongue became the pen, O Beloved, I would write, and contemplate, the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. Blessed is that scribe, O Nanak, who writes the True Name, and enshrines it within his heart. || 8 || 3 ||
