ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਛੰਤ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਮੰਗਲ ਸਾਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਗਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ BILAAVAL, FIFTH MEHL, CHHANT:ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU: The time of rejoicing has come; I sing of my Lord God. I have heard of my Imperishable Husband Lord, and happiness fills my mind. My mind is in love with Him; when shall I realize my great good fortune, and meet with my Perfect Husband? If only I could meet the Lord of the Universe, and be automatically absorbed into Him; tell me how, O my companions! Day and night, I stand and serve my God; how can I attain Him? Prays Nanak, have mercy on me, and attach me to the hem of Your robe, O Lord. || 1 || Joy has come! I have purchased the jewel of the Lord. Searching, the seeker has found the Lord with the Saints. I have met the Beloved Saints, and they have blessed me with their kindness; I contemplate the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. With my consciousness centered, and my mind one-pointed, I meditate on my Lord and Master, with love and affection. With my palms pressed together, I pray unto God, to bless me with the profit of the Lord’s Praise. Prays Nanak, I am Your slave. My God is inaccessible and unfathomable. || 2 || The date for my wedding is set, and cannot be changed; my union with the Lord is perfect. I am totally at peace, and my separation from Him has ended. The Saints meet and come together, and meditate on God; they form a wondrous wedding party. Gathering together, they arrive with poise and grace, and love fills the minds of the bride’s family. Her light blends with His Light, through and through, and everyone enjoys the Nectar of the Lord’s Name. Prays Nanak, the Saints have totally united me with God, the All-powerful Cause of causes. || 3 || Beautiful is my home, and beauteous is the earth. God has entered the home of my heart; I touch the Guru’s feet. Grasping the Guru’s feet, I awake in peace and poise. All my desires are fulfilled. My hopes are fulfilled, through the dust of the feet of the Saints. After such a long separation, I have met my Husband Lord. Night and day, the sounds of ecstasy resound and resonate; I have forsaken my stubborn-minded intellect. Prays Nanak, I seek the Sanctuary of my Lord and Master; in the Society

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ) ਕਿਉਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।(ਜੀਵ) ਸਾਰੇ ਭੈੜੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਫਿਰ) ਉਹ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ) ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ। = ਵੱਸਦਾ, ਵੇਖਦਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਕਰਤੱਬ) ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੱਚ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ, ਸੋਨਾ ਛੱਡਣਾ, ਸੱਚੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ - ਇਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਹਨ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ (ਨਾਮ) ਕੌੜਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (-ਇਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)। 1.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ (ਸਦਾ) ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ (ਹਨੇਰੇ) ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। 2.10.96
Hey brother! I don't know why the living beings) remain astray like this. (Jives (O brother! Jives do not know) why they remain astray like this. (Jives) do all the bad deeds, (then) they also deny (that we did not do them). But God is always with all the jives. Dwells, sees and hears (everyone's deeds). 1. Stay.
Hey brother! Trading glass, giving up gold, abandoning true friends and falling in love with enemies - these are the actions of living beings. God's (name) seems bitter, Maya's love seems sweet (-this is the daily nature of living beings. They are always angry because of Maya's love). 1.
Hey brother! The living beings (always) remain in the blind (dark) well of attachment, (the living beings are always) wandering, stuck in the dark bonds of attachment (I don't know why they remain astray). O Nanak! Say - The person on whom the Lord is merciful, he meets the Guru (and, the Guru takes his) arm and takes him out (from the dark well). 2.10.96.

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. TRUTH IS THE NAME. CREATIVE BEING PERSONIFIED. NO FEAR. NO HATRED. IMAGE OF THE UNDYING. BEYOND BIRTH. SELF-EXISTENT. BY GURU’S GRACE:RAAG GOND, CHAU-PADAS, FOURTH MEHL, FIRST HOUSE:Oh my mind! Hope for (the help of) the Lord of the world. Whoever hopes for someone else besides God, that hope is not successful, that hope goes in vain. 1. Stay.Hey brother! If you trust only in God in your mind, then you will get many desired fruits, (because) God knows everything that is used in the mind (of those beings), and God does not know anything. He does not let his hard work go to waste. So, oh my mind! Always have hope of that Master-God, who is present in all beings. 1.Oh my mind! What this whole family is showing is (the root of) Maya's attachment. Don't waste your life hoping for this family. There is nothing in the hands of those concerned. What can these ideas do? Their efforts cannot be successful. So, oh my mind! Hope only in your beloved Lord, He can pass you through, can also save your family (from every calamity). 2.Hey brother! If you (apart from the Lord) hope for other illusions etc., do not think that illusion will be of any use to you. Maya wali aasa (apart from Lord) is another love, it is all false love, it will perish in a moment. Oh my mind! Have hope only in the beloved Lord who is eternal, that Lord will make all your hard work successful. 3.But, O my Lord! With your inspiration, the living being hopes, the mind becomes full of joy. Every living being hopes as you inspire. O my lord! No creature can control anything - my Guru has given me this insight. O Lord! You yourself know the (held) hope of (your) slave Nanak (that longing is that) by seeing the Lord (Nanak's mind) be satisfied with the blessing of the vision (from Maya's hopes). 4.1.ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ਰਾਗੁ ਗੋਂਡ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥ਜੇ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਸ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਾ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਫਲ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜੋ ਜੀਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਾ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਆਸ ਸਭ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਮਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਵਾਹਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੁਝੁ ਤਾਰੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੨॥ ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਆਈ ॥ ਇਹ ਆਸ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਝੂਠੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਕੋ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਈ ॥ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਸੀ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਐਸੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਸ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਸ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ। ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।੧।ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਾਹ ਗਵਾ ਲਈਂ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ। ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਉਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਡਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਬਣਾਏਂਗਾ, ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਂ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇਗੀ। ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ

ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਮਾਰ ॥ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਤੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੨॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਤਦਹੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ ਮਤਾ ਮਸੂਰਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਤਦਹੁ ਆਕਾਸੁ ਨ ਪਾਤਾਲੁ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੋਈ ॥ ਤਦਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ) (ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ 'ਮੇਰੀ' ਬਣ ਜਾਏ, ਇਹ ਚੀਜ਼ 'ਮੇਰੀ' ਹੋ ਜਾਏ-ਇਸ) ਅਣਪੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਤਨਾ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਉਣ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ। ਜੋ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਮਝੋ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਅੱਪੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਥੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲ ਮਨ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।੧।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਗ਼ਫ਼ਲਿਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕਦੇ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੌਖਲਾ ਤੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਝੰਬੇਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਖਪਾਣਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਸਹੇੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੀਚਾਰਦੇ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਸੀਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਮੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।੨।
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਸਲਾਹ ਮਸ਼ਵਰਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਸੋ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਹ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰੈਵੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ, ਕੋਈ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਅਜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਹੋਈ, ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਜੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਸੀ।
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।੧।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਸਦਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਗਤ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ (ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਭਗਤ ਵਰਗੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਹਰਣਾਖਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪਰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਡਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਗਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਭ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਤੇ) ਯਕੀਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੱਝਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ-ਭਰੀ ਗ਼ਰਜ਼ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ) ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਝਦਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ। ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਲ ਭੀ ਰੁੱਖਾ ਰੁੱਖਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਝੂਠ ਤੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਉੱਘੜ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ। ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ।੪।
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੫। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਭੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫ਼ਜ਼ੂਲ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਵਿਲਕ ਵਿਲਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਸ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ) ਠਾਹਰ ਉਹ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ, ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਗ਼ਰਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੬।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ, ਉਹ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ (ਮਿੱਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ। (ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ) ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬਾਬਤ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ) ਬਹਿਸਾਂ (ਹੀ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਯਕੀਨ ਜਾਣੋ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੭।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ (ਨਿੰਦਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।੮।੧।

(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਕਈ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ (ਪਾਣ ਨੂੰ) ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਪਲੰਘ (ਸੌਣ ਨੂੰ) ; ਪਰ ਕਈ (ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਗਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੁੱਲੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਬਿਸਤਰੇ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਪਰਾਲੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ।1।
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਈਰਖਾ ਤੇ ਝਗੜਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਨੇਕ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ (ਇਹ ਸੁਖ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈ।1। ਰਹਾਉ।
ਘੁਮਿਆਰ ਨੇ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਗੁੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਈ ਵੰਨਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ)। ਕਿਸੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਾਲਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਆਦਿਕ) ਰੋਗ ਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ।2।
ਸ਼ੂਮ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਅਤੇ) ਮੂਰਖ (ਸ਼ੂਮ) ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ– ਇਹ ਧਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਜਮ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।3।
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਕ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) , ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਠੀਕ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।4।
ਕਬੀਰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ– ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, "ਇਹ ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਆਦਿਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ" = ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ) ; (ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਜੇ) ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾੜ ਕੇ (ਕੋਈ ਬਿੱਲਾ) ਚਿੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ-ਪਏ ਪੰਛੀ ਦੀ) ਕੁੱਜੀ ਤੇ ਠੂਠੀ ਧਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਮੌਤ ਆਇਆਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਧਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।5।3। 16।

ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੧ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਤਨਿ ਧੋਤੈ ਮਨੁ ਹਛਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਇਹ ਜਗਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸਿਧਾ ਕੇ ਆਸਣ ਜੇ ਸਿਖੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਹੋਰੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਦੋ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਮਮਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਛਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। ਇਹ (ਨਾਮ-) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹੇ (ਤਾਂ ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ) ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਸਣ ਕਰਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਏ, ਜੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ (ਆਸਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ ਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ, (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।੨।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਜਤਨ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਲਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਐਸੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।੩।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਛੋਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਫਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਮਮਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੧।

When the mind is filthy, everything is filthy; by washing the body, the mind is not cleansed. This world is deluded by doubt; hardly anyone understands this. || 1 || O my mind, chant the One Name. The True Guru has given me this treasure. || 1 || Pause || Even if one learns the Yogic postures of the Siddhas, and holds his sexual energy in check, still, the filth of the mind is not removed, and the filth of egotism is not eliminated. || 2 || This mind is not controlled by any other discipline, except the Sanctuary of the True Guru. Meeting the True Guru, one is transformed beyond description. || 3 || Prays Nanak, one who dies upon meeting the True Guru, shall be rejuvenated through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸਭ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਸਭ ਖੁੱਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ) ਠੱਗੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਜਮ ਦੁਆਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬੜੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਸੰਤਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ ਅਗੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
ਅਰਥ: ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦੁਰਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ; ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਘੜੀ ਮੁੜੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ; ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਢੋਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੨।
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ ਜਿਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਇਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
ਅਰਥ: ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰ ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ।
ਸੇਈ ਪੁਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਹੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਝਾਹੀ ॥ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੧੭॥
ਅਰਥ: (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ (ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ) ਲੇਖ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ; ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਗੁਣ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।੧੭।
SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:
O Nanak, forsaking the Name, he loses everything, in this world and the next. Chanting, deep meditation and austere self-disciplined practices are all wasted; he is deceived by the love of duality. He is bound and gagged at the door of the Messenger of Death. He is beaten, and receives terrible punishment. || 1 || THIRD MEHL: They inflict their hatred upon the Saints, and they love the wicked sinners. They find no peace in either this world or the next; they are born only to die, again and again. Their hunger is never satisfied, and they are ruined by duality. The faces of these slanderers are blackened in the Court of the True Lord. O Nanak, without the Naam, they find no shelter on either this shore, or the one beyond. || 2 || PAUREE: Those who meditate on the Lord’s Name, are imbued with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in their minds. For those who worship the One Lord in their conscious minds, there is no other than the One Lord. They alone serve the Lord, upon whose foreheads such pre-ordained destiny is written. They continually sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and singing the Glories of the Glorious Lord, they are uplifted. Great is the greatness of the Gurmukhs, who, through the Perfect Guru, remain absorbed in the Lord’s Name. || 17 ||

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਹਮਰੀ ਬੇਦਨਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਝੂਠਾ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਾਹਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਸਭਸ ਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ ਸਭਨਾ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥
ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ। ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਕੀ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈਂ। ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਭੀ ਉਕਾਈ-ਹੀਣ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਊਣਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ) । ਹੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।੧।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ (ਮੰਗਾਂ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।੨।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਤੇ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੩।
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਰੱਖ। ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।੪।੭।੧੩।
DHANAASAREE, FOURTH MEHL:
O my King, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan, I am at peace. You alone know my inner pain, O King; what can anyone else know? || Pause || O True Lord and Master, You are truly my King; whatever You do, all that is True. Who should I call a liar? There is no other than You, O King. || 1 || You are pervading and permeating in all; O King, everyone meditates on You, day and night. Everyone begs of You, O my King; You alone give gifts to all. || 2 || All are under Your Power, O my King; none at all are beyond You. All beings are Yours—You belong to all, O my King. All shall merge and be absorbed in You. || 3 || You are the hope of all, O my Beloved; all meditate on You, O my King. As it pleases You, protect and preserve me, O my Beloved; You are the True King of Nanak. || 4 || 7 || 13 ll
